Argumentative Reflection

There was always an argument between whether Co-ed or same sex classrooms

are better than one another which I explained and supported for an assignment. The

assignment that i completed was called Single sex classrooms and was completed

during my 11th grade on February 8, 2018. I was asked to argue whether students

would do better in same sex classrooms or combined sex classrooms. I was also asked

why would one be better than the other by giving evidence. The reason why this

assignment is an argumentative piece because I argue that students will be better off

going to a Co-ed school rather than a same sex classroom. I state this by providing

examples from a credible source and combining it with my example to prove that

students will be able to work in any environment that has both genders rather than one.

When I completed this assignment I was a critical thinker. I was a critical thinker

because I combined an outside source with my example to explain my argument. I

would also use my oppositions information against while also giving my own personal

view and understanding. Lastly, I would put my own biased opinion to the side and be

open minded about people’s perspective .

This helped me work on my Critical thinking because I had to use my own

knowledge as well as outside information to argue my view point on whether students

will be better in a Co-ed school or same sex education. For example, I argued that

having students go to a public school will give them the social skills for a career they are

aiming for. I also had to use outside knowledge I’ve gathered and my own to argue

against my opposition by using their information against them. For example, my


opposition states that same sex schools tend to have a higher graduation rate than

public schools. To which I reply, that although that may be the case we have to look into

the future which will require them to interact with other genders which they didn’t receive

during their time in school. The student ,now a graduate, will have a difficult time

working with the opposite gender. Some parts that I still need to improve on is my

arguing skill which was the main reason why this assignment was placed. I was set to

argue my viewpoint on the subject to which I did, but I tend to go off on a tangent about

one piece of evidence for too long. For example, when I talk about how not having the

set of social skills to talk to another gender. I give too much information about one of

my evidence and not about another which will leave me nothing to talk about my other

piece of evidence. This skill can be used in the future incase if I wanted to argue my

viewpoint to a fellow colleague. I will be able to give strong evidence to why am I right

about the current subject. I will also be able to use outside information similar to my

subject to help support my viewpoint.
