Viscoelástico

tempo/temperatura
Viscoelastic materials have the interesting property to behave as an
elastic solid on short time-scales and as viscous fluid on longer time-
scales. Furthermore they have temperature and rate loading
dependence.

COMPORTAMENTO MECÂNICO DE
ALGUNS MATERIAIS

Viscoelastic Behavior
• Material behavior combining elastic and
viscous characteristics is known as
viscoelastic behavior:
– The elastic (Hookean) solid and the
viscous (Newtonian) fluid represent
opposite ends of the viscoelastic spectrum Spring
– Linear viscoelasticity in one dimension
(1D) can be represented with mechanical
models
– The elements are the massless linear
spring with spring constant k and the
viscous dashpot with viscosity constant

Linear vs. Nonlinear Viscoelasticity
Linear vs. Nonlinear Viscoelasticity
• A linear material obeys linear integral equations/differential
equations.
• The measured creep or relaxation function of a linear material is
independent of stress or strain.
