German´s Plans to Increase the Use of Electric Cars

An electric car is a car powered by an electric motor that gets energy from an energy

controller and uses the energy stored in its rechargeable batteries. Germany plans to increase the

use of electric cars due to the numerous benefits it brings, such as health benefits, economic and

environmental impact.

The automotive industry faces enormous challenges in Germany because it accounted for

11% of its exports and 4.9% of imports in 2016 (The Observatory of Economic Complexity, 2016),

so the changes they want to make must be taken carefully. Germany needed to find a way to

compensate for the loss of gas taxes or a way to tax the renewable energy that is consumed.

An independent study by Aurora Energy Research estimated that 40% of electric cars on

the road in 2035 could generate additional revenue for utilities of approximately 2.7 euros / MWh

for the additional 31 TWh of additional energy that would be needed. As a result, German service

companies will additionally earn between 500 and 700 million euros a year if they take advantage

of the process that is taking place. (Eckert, 2018).

As the annual growth rate of renewable energy consumption has increased by 14.7% in the

period 2005-2015 (Dudley, 2017, pp. 44), the balance that the Germans were looking for is

available because the loss of taxes to the Gasoline will be offset by the additional power gains

needed for electric cars put on the road in 2035.

Hydrocarbons are the main component of oil, natural gas, and coal. Substances that affect

nature that contributes to global warming and the greenhouse effect and that can be reduced

considerably using an electric car, as scientists have seen in recent years.

In Germany during the period 2005-2015, the percentage decreased by 0.9% and increased

by 1.0% in 2016 (Dudley, 2017, pp. 47). This statistic encouraged the country to improve on

ecological aspects, so they are making changes in the automotive industry with innovative

programs.

A recent program established in May 2016 an expenditure of 300 million euros in 15,000

new charging stations and a subsidy of 4,000 euros for the purchase of an electric car that has 2019

as a limited period of time (Alemania incentivará el uso de autos eléctricos, 2016)

Excessive polluting emissions cause cancer and respiratory diseases and some of them are

premature deaths. In September 2015, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology estimated that

1,200 people will lose a decade of their lives, of which 500 deaths will occur in Germany due to

contaminated emissions generated excessively between 2008 and 2015. The estimate was made in

a new scenario, where Germany takes new standards and by January 2018 would not have

generated excessive emissions. The result was 2,600 premature deaths, a cipher that could go up

if measures are not taken and makes humanity realize the damaged occasioned (Chu, 2017).

An electric car does not need fossil fuels to work, so the harmful emissions are reduced by

the fact that the car takes electricity and transforms it into energy. The electricity that can be

generated from renewable sources. Currently, Germany only circulates about 50,000 vehicles that

work with rechargeable and hybrid batteries among the 45 million cars that use their roads (Müller,

2017). But the goal is to bring a million of them to their roads by the end of the decade (Alemania

incentivará el uso de autos eléctricos, 2016).

Germany, one of the countries with the highest production of vehicles, intends to increase

the use of its electric vehicle by encouraging its citizens with subsidies or cash prizes and investing

in charging stations. The objective is feasible because electric cars provide environmental and

health benefits that will generate a tremendous long-term change in favor of the preservation of

nature and its economy will not be affected.

GERMAN´S PLANS TO INCRESE THE USE OF ELECTRIC CARS 5

I. Introduction
1. Background: Gasoline cars produce hydrocarbons, substances that
contribute most to the greenhouse effect and global warming, increase
sickness as cancer and respiratory disorders, reduce the photosynthetic
ability in plants and cause other harmful consequences.
2. Thesis Statement: Germany plans to increase the use of eco-friendly electric
cars because of the numerous benefits it brings as lowing the hydrocarbons
emissions to air or the independence of fossil fuels.
II. Body
First Topic: Impacts in the environment
Point A- Reduction of polluting emissions
1. Percentage change in Germany´s greenhouse gas emissions. Energy
consumption-renewable energy used relationship
2. German greenhouse emission reduction since 1990 and approximations
till 2030
Point B- Independence of fossil fuels Number of cars put on the road since 1990
1. Statistics of how much fossil fuels do it remains
2. Reduced energy dependence-renewable energies to generate electricity
Second Topic: Health benefits
Point A- Batteries
1. Consequences of batteries employed in gasoline cars
2. Some types of batteries used in electric cars
Point B- Electric motor
1. Basic functionality
2. Emissions produced by an electric car
Third Topic: Measures taken by Germany

Point A- Plans that Germany has

1. Reduction of polluting emissions
2. Health benefits as consequence of the reduction in polluting emissions
Point B- Independence of fossil fuels
1. Number of cars put on the road since 1990
2. Benefits given to electric cars users

I. Conclusion
1. Summarize the main points of your paper and restate your thesis in fresh
words: German plans to increase the use of eco-friendly electric cars because
of the numerous benefits it brings as the reduction of polluting emissions,
fewer diseases generated or the independence of fossil fuels.

2. Make a strong/memorable final statement: German intend to increase his

electric car usage by giving benefits to their users just for the fact that electric
cars are made of eco-friendly materials that contribute to the reduction of
polluting emissions and the use of renewable energies.
