Lesson Plan in English 9

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 60 minutes discussion, the grade 9 learners
are able to perform the following with at least 80% level of accuracy:

a. define adverbs in their own words,


b. use adverbs in sentences correctly,
c. differentiate the kinds of adverbs,
d. build self-confidence and participate in class discussion and group
activities vigorously

Materials : Laptop, speaker, video clip, cartolina, pictures
and printed words

III. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES


A. Preliminary Activities

B. ACIVITY
1. Review
What have you learned from the poem “The Rhodora: On
Being Asked, Where is the Flower?” by Ralp Waldo
Emerson.

2. Reading Drill (Individual/Whole Class)


There are paper cut-outs that are in different shapes
hidden under each learner’s chair. Each of them will read
the words written on it and post it on the board. When the
learners are all done, have the whole class read the words
they posted on the board.

After the reading activity form students into five


groups, allow them to choose in what group they
want to belong.

3. Motivation
Speaking Task
1. What was the biggest lie that you’ve experienced in your
life?
2. What could be the possible effects of too much lying to
someone?
3. Do you still love those persons who once lied to you?

4. Presentation
Listening Task with Music Integration

Have learners listen to a song entitled “Love the way


you lie” by Rihanna ft. Eminem. Instruct them to feel and
understand each lyric of the song but it’s better if they
sing along with the song.
(All girls (Soprano)are going to sing the first stanza,
then followed by boys (bass) for the next stanza and sing
the chorus all together with the blending of voice
(Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass))
Before playing the song have them read the guide
questions first about the song, that they are going to
answer after the listening activity.

Post Listening Activity


Have them answer the guide questions:
1. What is the song all about?
2. What is the man’s biggest lie according to the song?
3. Why do you think the guy always hurts his girl?
4. Do you thibk the girl really loves the man so much? Why?
Or why not?
5. If the man asked for forgiveness, could they recover from
their happy relationship?

Forming Questions:
Allow students to form their own questions and let them
choose who among their classmates is going to answer or
let them answer their own questions.

C. ANALYSIS
Let us now observed some lines from the song.
(Have them read all)
 I can barely breathe.
 You never do nothing to hurt them.
 I still fight.
 You ever love somebody so much.
In lines taken from the song, what do you think is the part of
speech that they focused on?
What do you think are the underlined words? (Adverbs)
Where are the verbs and the adverbs in those sentences?

Viewing Task (ICT)


Have them watch a video clip to know and understand more
about adverbs and kinds of adverb.

D. ABSTRACTION
What are the words that adverbs modify?
In your own words what are adverbs?
What are the kind of adverbs?

E. APPLICATION
A.
1. Writing Task : Provide each group a picture, and have them
construct a sentence base on the picture.
Picture 1 : Shows about adverb of Manner
Picture 2 : Shows about adverb of Time
Picture 3 : Shows about adverb of Place
Picture 4 : Shows about adverb of Frequency
Picture 5 : Shows about adverb of Degree

2. Acting Task : Have them choose representative from each


group to act out the following phrases they will picked from
the box. Each contains an adverb and the word it modifies.
The group that will first get 3 points will be the winner and will
receive each of the members a point and a ballpen and paper
as a reward. But rest assured all the other groups will also
receive a point for active participation.

B. Differentiated Tasks
Group 1: Write a short poem using adverbs
Group 2: Compose a short song using a words that are
adverbs
Group 3: Draw a scene out from the song listened showing
adverb words
Group 4: Construct at least 3 sentences about the activity
today using adverbs.
Group 5 : Have them go outside the classroom, let them
observe the surroundings and have them list
down at least 5 adverbs base on their
observation.

IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Use correct adverb in each sentence by forming the word
inside the parenthesis. Underline twice the word it modifies or
describes.
Test A
1. The children run. (quick)
2. The kids are singing (harmony).
3. She loves him (tender).
4. Mother screams (angry).
5. Her husband sleeps (sound).
6. She eats food (hungry).
7. The students are taking the test (serious).
8. The girls dance (graceful).
9. She exercises (regular).
10. The child laughs (heavy).

Test B
For 11-15 points, enumerate at least 5 types of voicing? (Music)

After the learners done answering the test, have them


exchange their papers to their seatmates and check, then
count the number of correct. Have each of the learners
announce the score.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Write meaningful sentences using the given adverbs.

1. Happily
2. Upstairs
3. Tonight
4. So
5. Thrice
