Schoolwork not Homework

Homework. The term defines as “schoolwork a student is required to do at home.” The

question I have, the same question maybe a lot of students or parents might have is: why do we

have to do homework at home when we do enough at school?

Due to excessive about of schoolwork and trying to fit other after school activities in many

students that don't get the necessary amount of sleep. This shows how homework adds extra

pressure and can cause tension in families. It takes away from family time and causes more

stress on students and parents. According to ​CNN​ kids have three times the amount of

homework they should have.

Procon​ a website that shows pro’s and con’s about any subject says that homework improves

student achievement, but then again too much homework can be harmful and introduce stress

to yourself and discourage you to do it.

According to ​NEA​ Kindergartens receive on average 25 minutes a night and they also say they

should not receive any at all (​Healthline​). High school teens are the ones that get affected by

this the most, 71% says homework is not beneficial while 21% says it is; 8% unsure, this shows

where a lot of people stand on this issue, said ​Healthline​. Again, why do we need even more

schoolwork at home, when we have enough going on at home?

Last November, I lost a great friend from a terrible winter accident. When she passed a way I

did not think I could go back to school and face my other friends, the staff and faculty, Hannah

was the light in my life. She would always talk to me and we would always hang out. When I

found out the news I was in Peer-To-Peer class where I was helping kids that needed extra help

with academics. I had to leave them, I just could not do it. That monday I came back I knew

there would be a lot going on, so I prepared myself and tried not to think about her, but I just

could not do it. That following week my grades dropped dramatically all by 15% or more,

because I was so behind. Homework really put a weight on me.

Many students receive one homework assignment per class meaning, if you had four, you

would have four homework assignments per night. In a total that is twenty homework

assignments per week. Reducing homework or having none at all could resolve this problem

very quickly, and would relieve stress on students, parents, teachers, and many more.
