Artist Statement

Art has always been an essential part of my life. I began to draw when I was a young girl

and most of my pieces are landscape paintings since I was strongly influenced by my idol Monet.

He is the most outstanding representative in the impressionist and the greatest artist around the

world. His work is so enchanting and attractive that it gives me a sense of relief and always lets

me feel the beauty of this world just like he put magic on it. Monet made me realize how

powerful art can be.

As I grow up, I became very interested in photography as well. I like to capture the

beauty in mundane objects and views. In order to improve my artistic skills and accomplishment,

I have attended a lot of after-school classes. At the same time, I have also taken courses such as

visual arts, media arts, and communications technology in school. Unlike physics and other

subjects, I find those courses really interesting and they are definitely something that I truly love

and enjoy. I guess true happiness comes when you do what you are most passionate about. Last

semester, I took the course film & video which has an important impact on my future education

and even my career. Because of this course, I made the final decision of studying film in

university and working at a film studio after graduation.

The summer after grade eleven, I received a co-op position at Cinespace Film Studios.

During my one month experience, I was privileged to gain first-hand knowledge in many

departments for the filming of the CBS television series, In the Dark. In particular, learning from

those countless talented and creative members from different departments was very eye-opening

and helpful. My time with Cinespace Film Studios further solidified my passion for film. I

enjoyed the fact that everyday was different and appreciated the responsibility given to me.

Working in all departments of a television show gave me an unforgettable experience because it

gave me a very clear idea of how this industry operates. I rose to the challenge and always made

myself available with enthusiasm. Working with all the crew members gave me many

noteworthy role models to look up to. I left the program with more confidence in myself and it

reaffirmed my commitment to pursuing an education in film production.

Different mediums allow me to express different ideas. More importantly, art to me not

only helps to express my feelings and thoughts, but also an important way to bond with others

and the world.
