Written Reflection

1. If I had to summarise my mentor’s feedback, I would say he

overall praised me for being motivated. My mentor always
helped me keep on task and focus on my personal best project
for the entire semester. During some points , I wasn’t really
motivated to do my personal best project, but after the
encouragement from my mentor, I continued to do my best.
Thanks to the feedback and advice I received from my mentor, I
was able to actually finish my personal best project and folio on
time. My mentor would give me great advice during situations
and problems I was going through. For example, my mentor
would stay up late at night along with me, to find video tutorials
and help me understand what they are telling me to do. My
mentor was a significant part of my personal best project.

2. To keep focus on my personal best project, I would always keep

reminders and alarms on my laptop and iPad, so that I would work

on time and not miss anything. Normally when I was working on
my personal best project, I would designated certain times for each
of the components such as the folio and the project. Another
motivation, as mentioned before, was my mentor. My mentor, also
known as my dad, would always keep on reminding me to finish
my project, even when he actually knew that I finished. He
reminded me today! Having a mentor like my father is actually
really awesome because whenever I would forget about my
personal best project, I would always have someone by my side,
constantly reminding me.

I have to say that there were times that I wanted to give up, but,
after my mentor helped me and provided me with advice, I climbed
back up again. An example of my persistence would be that when
my game code went missing, I had to work all day and night just to
create another game. I have to admit that I put a lot of effort into
that.

3. During my time whilst completing my personal best project, I

gained many different skills, not only knowledge, but values as
well. I learnt how to especially manage my time and organise
myself into different situations. Time management was a huge
thing for me as I learnt how to complete things on time and in
correspondence to a schedule. As for organisation, I tried to keep
everything clear and neat so that I wouldn’t get confused whenever
I came back to complete my personal best project/folio.

4. I did face a lot of challenges whilst completing my personal best

project. At times I had to find things completely new and re-
construct them so I could somehow result in programming a game.
I made many mistakes especially when I was making the game.
Honestly, the biggest mistake was not saving the game. I learned a
lesson from that - always save your work. I did a lot of
experimentation, specifically with the game, as the coding required
quite a lot of it.

5. There wasn’t much humour during my project except for the fact
that my father (mentor) would never stop talking about my personal
best project. Everyday, he would somehow link something to the
completion my personal best project. It was quite funny for me
though.

6. The reason why I chose to make a game was because I had

previously learnt how to code things and program on coding
softwares. Another reason was because of my mentor and how he
wanted me to learn about the art of coding. Honestly, I believe that
coding is quite satisfying considering that it is really detailed.
Before jumping into this project, I had learn about the common
basics and techniques for the Python program, so I was set and
ready for the even harder video tutorials. Thankfully, I learnt many
basics in the past, so whenever I made an error in the game, it was
quite easy to climb back up again.

7. Well, I definitely know that I have to think before I act. This entire
concept was related to making my game and the completion of my
personal best project. At times I was quite lazy to complete my
project, however, after some thought I decided to keep up the
perseverance and motivation by thinking about the consequences
of not completing the folio and the project.

8. Looking back at myself, I learnt that I have an eye for aesthetics

and that I am quite the perfectionist when it comes to absolutely
anything. When I coded my game, I made sure every single
character was correct. I also learnt that whenever my perfectionist
side is working, I turn out to be quite a slow worker, so sometimes I
have to work myself a lot in order to get everything done at the
time. This is also a reason why I use reminders and alarms
constantly, so that I work timely and organised. I also learnt that I
am quite a generous human being, as I would always help with
whatever the problem is. Along with this, I learnt so much more
about myself that it is not able to be written.
