'Some have fallen from being Princes of this land to be prisoners in this place; I am raised
from being prisoner in this place to be Prince of this land. That dejection was a work of God's
justice; this advancement is a work of His mercy.' (Elizabeth I at the Tower of London, during

Foreword

The reason why I chose this topic is because Queen Elizabeth's strong personality
made a tremendously impacted on me. As everybody know, Queen Elizabeth was endowed
with many qualities and one of the most remarkable aspects of her royalty was her capacity of
breaking almost all rules. The first and the most important rule started from the idea that a
Queen is -in the happiest case- a nuisance. This idea was contradicted by the Elizabethan
England which was an active society that became aware of its national destiny, destiny which
would have transformed England from an insignificant country in the greatest empire of the
world.
I have heard about her a lot of things before taking up this subject and I have known
for certain that I would like to know even more about her as she was famous for giving a
name to a whole era, the Elizabethan Age, which was prosperous in all domains: music,
theatre, architecture. All these points lead to the fact that she was an intelligent woman. She
amazes with her great leading spirit and her power of imposing her ideas.
The paper comprises 4 paragraphs in which I will intend to present some of the most
important information about Queen Elizabeth I and the life during her epoch. The research is
going to be a challenge because it has never occurred to me that a woman could survive and
thrive in a world led by man.
The first chapter presents Elizabeth's parents and the situation that changed her status
from a princess to an illegitimate daughter. To illustrate this I want to mention the knowledge
she possessed as her education was not neglected even is she was striped off from her title,
she was still a well-educated woman.
The second chapter provides details on the beginning the ascension to the throne of
Mary I, her half sister, and how Elizabeth became her heir also describing some details about
the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. Moreover, to make it more accessible I included five
subsections that illustrate the life of the queen from the beginning of her reign to her late
years, as well as the greater problems concerning the kingdom.
The third chapter offers insight into the Elizabethan era known as Golden Age and at
the same time giving some details about Queen Elizabeth's hobbies that were captured in two
chapters: "The Queen's wardrobe" and "Sports, games and leisure".
