Sexual orientation and gender identity are important factors in our society because

everyone should have an equal chance to be loved and accepted. A person's identity is also

made up of your gender and sexual orientation, and people should not be unwelcoming

because of who you love or what you identify as.

One reason people who identify as lgbtq report living in an unwelcoming enviorment is

because people who come out are not accepted as they should be. For example, “ ​While

non-LGBT students struggle most with school classes, exams, and work, their LGBT peers say

the biggest problem they face is unaccepting families​.” i​ n addition, people who often get thrown

out of their houses because of their sexuality, often commit suicide, or just run away. Thus it can

be seen that people are not accepted and they are living in an unwelcoming community.

Another reason that people are not accepted in the community is because they identify

as “ lgbtq “. People think they are not allowed to do certain things. For instance, “ The Don’t

Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, which restricted lesbians, gays, and bisexuals in the military from openly

serving, was lifted in 2011. People who are transgender are not permitted to serve openly yet.’’

In addition people deserve to be treated with respect and be allowed the same rights to any

other human being. The opposition might claim that people who identify as ‘’lgbtq ‘’ are

accepted in the community. For example, ‘’ ​As of July 2014, same-sex marriage is legal in 19

states plus the District of Columbia. “

​Currently, there is a great debate happening about whether people are for or

against gay marriage. In 2015 the U.S the supreme court ruled all state bans on same

sex marriage unconstitutional. Allowing gay couples to marry nationwide. Yet in can be

contended that, people actually do stand up for what's right and because of that they

have got what they needed to have a happy and successful life. Some may also argue
that people believe that people in the black community are not accepted in churches.

Some pastors of churches, and people in churches uses god as a shield because of

how they really feel. Furthermore “ ​80% of gay and lesbian youth report severe social

isolation.​ “ ​This evidence shows that people are still being hated on because of who they

love.

Yet others believe, that people should have the right to be happy with whomever

they choose to be with.

After examining both positions, it is evident that people need to stop being stupid and let

people be who they are without being judged. People should be allowed to love

whoever they love.
