LITIFERTIONZA - FERTILIZATION
GOTEYZ - ZYGOTE
CLEAGEVA - CLEAVAGE
TULABLAS - BLASTULA
TRUGASLA - GASTRULA
Definition of Terms:
FERTILIZATION - the process of fertilizing an egg which involve the fusion of male
and female gametes to form a zygote.
ZYGOTE - the cell formed by the union of a male sex cell (a sperm) and a
female sex cell (an ovum).
CLEAVAGE - rapid multiple rounds of cell division
BLASTULA - a 6-32-celled hollow structure that is formed after a zygote
undergoes cell division
GASTRULA - takes place after cleavage and the formation of the blastula and it
is a structure that has three layers
Watched Mo To!
The students were to watch a video clip of Early Stages of Embryonic Development.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
1. After the video presentation, the teacher will ask students what was the video all
about?
2. Why fertilization is important?
3. Based on the video presented, what are the different stages of embryonic
development?
Presentation of the Lesson
Present topic using the previous activities.
Anchor the discussion using student’s responses in the previous activities. Let them correct the
definition of the words in the engage activity.
Let the student answer how do humans develop?
The starting point of human development is fertilization. In order for the egg to be
fertilized, sperm must be present in the fallopian tube of the female reproductive system.
When the sperm cells reach the fallopian tube and encounter an egg, fertilization occurs.
Fertilization is the meeting of an egg and a sperm, specifically the moment where one
sperm nucleus enters an egg cell. When this happens, the egg becomes a fertilized egg
called zygote.
Fertilization takes place in the following stages:
After forming the zygote, the cells start and continue to divide.
By the time it reaches the uterus, the zygote is already a multicellular organism called
embryo.
Two important stages of early embryonic development are the blastocyst (cleavage) and
gastrula.
Cleavage is the stage where the zygote undergoes rapid cell divisions. This one cell
divides into two, and each undergoes another cell division. The resulting cells will
continue dividing until the embryo forms into a hollow ball of cells called blastocyst.
After cleavage, cell division slows down.
The next phase is gastrulation, which allows cells to occupy the locations for the
formation of tissues and organs. During gastrulation, the embryo is organized into three
layers. This three-layered embryo is called gastrula.
5. ELABORATE
6. EVALUATE
Arrange the stages of embryonic development in chronological order.
_____ Union of the male and female gametes forming a zygote
_____ After cleavage, cell division slows down
_____ Nuclei of the sperm and the egg results into a unicellular ball.
_____
7. EXTEND
ASSIGNMENT
What are the three embryonic layers formed in gastrula?
Make a table showing the different organs and tissues that develop from the three
layers of gastrula.
