In this project, we are assigned as a group to create an end of the semester project. We have many options to choose on. The group member is picked by the teacher which in this case the group member is the friend sitting around you. We as a group choose the topic of deforestation and over-hunting. We choose to create a board game representing habitat destruction by human and how that destruction affects the species in it. Learning with curiosity make the information more fun, enjoyable, and interesting. When we have an interest in something while researching, it makes us be more eager to find and learn more information. It is an advantage because you will never get bored and stop researching. We choose this topic because most of us including me find the topic of deforestation and habitat loss fascinating. This made us enjoy research and find much information to make the board game. We are also curious about the effect of our topic on the animal in the area and the area around it. In this topic, I started to research first on defining deforestation and habitat loss. I started on this first because it will scope for what should be researched next. After we have finished all the researching, we gather information and find the link between each. Then, because we decided to do the board game, we have to transform that information in the form of an interesting phrase. We also need to think about the information that makes the game work. I am lucky that I like to research. I don’t mind to compare information on one website to another. I love to learn new information and link it to my prior knowledge. However, I am lacking in crafting skill. I have low skill on the artistic side. As we have to make a product, I have a hard time creating the component but I can do it in the help of group members. The most important thing I have learned is that we really need to lower down the rate of deforestation. Many species now are endangered and many are extinct. If we let the deforestation continue, our biodiversity rate will rapidly go down. I came to realize this while I am researching and look into the statistics. Now, I try to conserve and use less product that came from trees. I did not care about this before but when I see the poor animal that their habitat has been destroyed I feel very guilty. While I was working on the project, I came across a problem. Since I have low skill in art and crafting, it took a very long time for me to make some component of the board game. Sometimes, I made a component but it is not perfect yet so I do it again which would take me a very long time. I am also struggling with the work log because I already use so much time on creating boardgame so sometimes I have to stay up really late just to do the work log and the learning record. I also have another subject work too which is a big project so I have to really manage the time. I have achieved to manage the time to finish all the work of all the subject that assign around the same time. After all, I am happy to research on the topic that I have an interest in. Nevertheless, miscommunication with the group members makes me unhappy. The solution of miscommunication is to always check the work from group member from time to time. Fortunately, we have ice being a good leader to distribute the work to members equally and suited the skill. The good way to make all the member learn is to let each one research or themselves so they have read the information and understand it. From what I have researched, deforestation is an act of cutting down trees to clear a land in order to make benefits for human and habitat loss is a process when the natural area/habitat became incapable of holding a native species. The relationship between them is when human clear the land for benefit purpose but that land that has been clear hold many organisms so the organism now has no food and no place to live. Deforestation is one of the HIPPCO that we have learned so we have quite a prior knowledge about it. The information from quarter 3 kind of a base to build up the research and there is no contradiction of them. From what I have learned from class, we have learned that deforestation is one of the main factors that lowering the biodiversity and from the research, it agrees. My strengths as a learner are I am determined and curious to know if I am interested in something. On the other hand, I have low artistic skills which make me have to take a long time to craft something for the boardgame. Next time, I will give more time on the work if I have to do the artwork. As a learner, I have learn to be more curious to find the deepest information I could find. This project made me came to realize that I will not be an artist ever. For the ESLOs in this project is strategic learners. I can recognize which information is important and what is not. I understand the content and use the information to create a product.
