TAEKWONDO TEAM
Project Target
Players of the Philippine Taekwondo Team
Expected Outcomes
Athletes are trained and equipped with the knowledge of athletic
performance enhancement. This will help us identify and reveal talents and full
potential of players during the whole program. This program will also gives us a
more solid structure for developing physical competencies of our athletes that can
be adopted at any level or competition.
Program Description
The program will be divided into to two parts: athletic performance training
and monitoring and evaluation.
Athletic Performance Training
The program will include athletic performance training. The training will
include:
Injury prevention program
Power and strength development
Speed development
Metabolic conditioning
Strength development and injury prevention will focus on the lower extremity as
well as the core. This stage of development of players where skill acquisition
surpasses physical development makes athletes prone to injury making
strengthening our primary objective. Speed development will focus on teaching
mechanics and acceleration as well as coordination of basic movements.
Conditioning will develop both anaerobic and aerobic capacity. The program will be
divided into phases and progress depending on the response of individual players.
The phases of the program are as follows:
1. Foundation Phase – at this phase, the program will focus on correcting
movement deficiencies and imbalances in preparation for the
strengthening phase. This also reduces the risk of injuries of the players.
2. Stability Phase – this phases focus on developing stability in the
movement. The program will progress from static stability to dynamic
stability emphasizing core and hip strength.
3. Strength Phase – aims to develop more strength by building more muscle
mass to create more force especially the lower body going to the core.
4. Strength Endurance Phase – aims to develop more capacity to express
strength develop during the previous phase.
5. Power Phase – last phase that aims to link all the qualities developed
during the initial phases to be able to produce power that will be
transferred to movement.
The players will undergo a pretest, mid test, and post test within the training period
or training calendar. A team and individual report will be provided which will
include current status of the players as well as recommendations for training.
Another instrument that will be used for monitoring is the Functional
Movement Screen. This involves a series of movement proficiency test that will
give the coaches a picture of all the players on who are not moving well and who are
more prone to injury. This will also gives us the capacity to look at the movement
deficiency of the athlete and provide corrective strategies to minimize the risk for
injuries.
