Analysis:

I think this poem is a lyric poem, it does not have the same rhyme scheme for every stanza;
however there are some rhyme scheme, and it is expressing the feelings of the speaker towards
his lover, additionally it has a consistent rhythm, which is 8 syllables and then followed by a 6
syllable. The main purpose of this poem is to show the love of the speaker to someone he love,
the general meaning of this poem is that the speaker is in love with this person, and comparing
his lover with roses and melodie to show the beauty of his lover, and then the speaker will love
this person even the sea drys out, even if the rocks melt because of the heat of the sun, and
even if it means to walking ten thousand miles, his feelings will not change. The theme of this
poem is that no matter how difficult or challenging it is, and no matter what it takes, if you are
deeply in love with a person, you could give up everything, and fight over everything just to be
with the one you love. In this poem, some of the main poetic elements that I noticed are rhyme
scheme, sound device, repetition and some figurative language. By using rhyming words, it
connects the author’s idea and how something is related to something, for example, in the first
stanza, the word ‘June’ nad ‘Tune’ rhymes, and both of these words are describing the person
that the speaker was in love with. Since these to words are describing the same subject,
therefore by using rhyming word, it emphasizes the subject that they are describing, as well as
letting the readers to also focus on the subject. By using sound devices, such as alliteration, it
builds up the flow of the poem, for example in the first line of stanza one, the words are ‘red,
red, rose’, and the alliteration is an ‘r’ sound. Again, by using alliteration, it helps slow down the
pace and focus on the subject that the author is addressing to the readers. Additionally, the
author also uses repetition to emphasize the subject which is his lover, for example, throughout
the poem, the phrase ‘my dear’ was repeated again and again, and also the word ‘luve’ which
means love, by repeating these words, it also add to the theme of this poem and emphasize
how much the speaker love this person. Furthermore, the speaker also uses figurative
language, and mostly simile. For example, in the first stanza, the speaker compared his lover
with a ‘red, red rose’, and also with a ‘melodie’, both of these phrases have a positive
connotations, if we look at first and second lines, it reads, “O my luve’s like a red, red, rose/
That’s newly sprung in June”, by looking at these two lines, we can see that the author is using
the word rose to show the beauty of his lover, and it says ‘newly sprung in June’, which
indicates this flower is still at its very beautiful state since it’s newly sprung, and the third and
fourth line in stanza one reads, “O my luve’s like the melodie/ That’s sweetly played in tune”,
here the author uses the word ‘sweetly’ to describe the ‘melodie’ that is played in tune, and
because of the word ‘sweetly’, it makes the word ‘melodie’ more pleasing, additionally by
saying ‘played in tune’, the author wants to let the readers to think that this melodie is very
pleasing to hear, since it’s in tune and it’s sweetly played. And by using all of these poetic
elements, it let the readers have the same sense of how beautiful and lovely the love of the
speaker is, and helps the readers to have a sense of why the speaker was deeply in love with
this person, which supports the general theme of the poem that why does the speaker could
give up everything just for this person.
