DSPF Paper Feed Section

Signal names are used to describe motors, clutches, solenoids and sensors.

Example: SCOV is a signal name.

The following list outlines the signal names and components for the DSPF Paper Feed
Section:

 SCOV - The upper cover sensor that detects whether the upper cover is opened or
closed.
 SLUM - A lift motor that moves the Document Feed Tray to the up or down
position.
 SPED1 - A document sensor that detects document(s) in the Document Feed Tray.
 SPED2 - A document sensor that detects document(s) in the Document Feed Tray.
 SPFC - A Document Feed Clutch that controls whether the paper feed, paper pick-
up and separation rollers are on or off in the Document Feed Tray.
 SPFM - A transport motor that drives the transport rollers through the SPFC.
 SPLS1 - A Document Size Length Sensor.
 SPLS2 - Also a Document Length Sensor that detects documents larger than 8 1/2
by 11 R (Reduction).
 SPPD1 - A Document Pass Sensor 1 that detects a document leaving the Paper
Feed Rollers.
 SPRDMD - A Random Document Sensor which detects random documents being
fed through the DSPF with the same width.
 SPWS - The Document Width Sensor that detects the width of a document in the
Document Feed Tray. The SPWS is a variable resistor that converts a rotary motion
into a change of resistance.
 STLD - The Document Feed Tray Lower Limit Sensor, that detects when the tray
is in the down position.
 STUD - The Document Feed Tray Upper Limit Sensor that detects when the
Document Feed Tray is in the up position.

Operational Path:

1. Pick-up Roller feeds the document into the Paper Feed and Separation Rollers.
2. Document or Paper Feed Roller feeds the document into the Transport Section.
3. Separation Roller is used to prevent more than one document from being fed into
the Transport Section at a time.
4. The Torque Limiter has a fixed level of resistance provided for the rotation of the
Separation Roller to prevent more than one document to be fed into the Transport
Section.
DSPF Paper Feed and Transport Operation

DSPF Paper Feed and Transport Operation

Paper Feed Operation

When a job is started, the document tray is lifted until the first document at the top of the
document tray activates the upper limit sensor (STUD). The pressure between the top
document in the document tray and the pickup roller is maintained at a constant level to
improve the paper feed by keeping the paper in contact with the pickup roller. When paper
to be scanned is fed, the document sensor 1 (SPED1) turns off and the document tray
moves down automatically until the document feed tray lower limit sensor (STLD) detects
it. Up and down movements of the document tray are performed by the lift motor (normal
rotation and reverse rotation) and the lift gear. The document fed by the pick up roller is
sent through the paper feed roller and the transport roller to the resist roller section. In the
resist roller section, the document lead edge and the scan start positions are synchronized.
The document is transported to the scan section. After being scanned, the document is sent
to the document exit tray by the exit roller.

DSPF Upper Transport Section

DSPF Upper Transport Section

Signal names are used to describe motors, clutches, solenoids and sensors.

The following list outlines the signal names and components for the DSPF Upper
Transport Section:

 SPFM - A transport motor that drives the transport rollers

 SPPD2 - A document pass sensor that detects a document once it leaves the Paper Feed
Section
 STRC - The Transport Roller 2 Clutch that controls the ON/OFF state of Transport Roller 2
 STRRC - The Transport Roller 1 Clutch that controls the ON/OFF state of Transport Roller 1

Operational Path:

1. Transport Roller 1 is the drive that transports the document from the Paper Feed Section
to Transport Roller 2.
2. Transport Idle Roller 1 applies pressure to Transport Roller 1 and assists in the delivery of
a document to Transport Roller 2.
3. Transport Roller 2 is also a drive roller that delivers the document from Transport Roller 1
to the Registration Roller.
4. Transport Idle Roller 2 applies pressure to Transport Roller 2 and assists in the delivery of
a document.
