Styrene Butadiene Rubber Production Plant

Styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) is one of the cheaper synthetic general purpose

elastomers that is sometimes used as a substitute for natural rubber (NR). It can be

produced by free-radical solution polymerization or by emulsion polymerization either

warm at 30 to 60°C (hot rubber) or cold at temperatures near 0°C (cold rubber).

Raw Materials

Styrene (C8H8)

Butadiene (C4H6)

Product

Styrene- Butadiene Rubber

Plant Location

The SBR plant will be located in Batangas City, particularly Brgy. Ilijan. It is

approximately 29.5 km from the Batangas Port. It is also approximately 26.5 km from

the city proper. It is dominated by several industries like Ilijan Combined-Cycle Power

Plant, which is a dual-fuel power station, JG Summit Petrochemical Corporation which

is an integrated polyethylene and polypropylene resin manufacturer, and Pilipinas

ShellPetroleum which is a downstream oil refining plant and marketing business. The

amount of land required for the proposed plant is three hectares.

Acetylene Production Plant

Acetylene is a colorless, combustible gas with a distinctive odor.

It is a hydrocarbon composed of two carbon atoms and two hydrogen atoms.

Either in liquid or gas state, it is highly explosive. But still there are many

applications and uses of acetylene. The most known application is for acetylene

welding and cutting of metallic products, as well as in brazing applications, in

which acetylene is used as a fuel component. And principally it is also used in the

synthesis of a series of organic chemicals, resins, and plastics. (How Products

Are Made v.4, 2014)

Raw Materials

Calcium Carbonate (Limestone)

Product

Acetylene

Target Location

Since, acetylene is one of the most used industrial gas, such as in

mechanical, metallurgical and auto mechanical workshops, the group decided to

propose in putting up an acetylene plant in Barangay Constancia, San Lorenzo,

Guimaras. It is the target location because of its proximity to raw material

deposit, which are limestones. The limestones will be coming from Barangay

Moroboan, Jordan, Guimaras mine and quarry in order to obtain lime through the

calcination process of limestones.

Carbon black Production Plant
This project addresses the reprocessing of oils derived from waste-tire pyrolysis
into carbon black, a valuable feedstock for the manufacture of tires, other rubber
products, paints, pigments, ink, powder coating, toner, and more. Such a process would
form a recycling loop for the carbon black recovered from waste tires. Tire pyrolysis
plants have been in operation for several years, but the economics are poor. This is due
to the low value of the end products, which are usually fuels (e.g., oil, pyrolysis gas,
char). Reprocessing of waste tires into value-added products would improve the
economic leverage. The overall objective of the project is to develop a process for
producing carbon black from tire pyrolysis oil.

Plant Location

The designed Carbon Black Production plant will be located at Don Jose, Sta.

Rosa Laguna. Several factors are considered for the selection of the location such as

suitability of land and climate, ease of access to transport, ease of access of raw

materials, and environmental and safety requirements.

The selected location provides ease of access to transport. It is near at Laguna

de Bay, the largest lake in the Philippines, wherein it can give access to ships and

vessels that will deliver the raw materials to the plant and also be the source of water for

the heating and cooling purposes of the equipments of the plant.

Lubricating Oil Production Plant
In relation to the consumption of oil, the major problem we’ve face right now is
the waste oil disposal which results to degradation and pollution to the environment. At
present the used oil is disposed by pouring into ground, water bodies or used as fuel
leading to serious environmental problems. Currently, petroleum waste is not given full
attention by the government or by the oil companies themselves. It is a health and
environmental hazard that is not accounted for. In fact, just one liter of used engine oil
has the potential to contaminate up to 1 million liters of drinking water and substantially
damage human health. It also destroys aquatic habitat as it find its way into lakes and
rivers.

Plant Location
The 10 hectare proposed Waste Lubricating Oil Refining Plant is located in Brgy.

Lingga, Calamba City, Laguna. It is a perfect spot for the plant considering the available

land area and the ease for transportation of raw materials and end products. And also, it

is suited for industrial plant because it is far from the residences. Brgy.Lingga, Calamba

City is just half a kilometer from the city proper and also could be accessible through

water transportation. The cost of the place ranges up to one thousand pesos per square

meter.
