Would you consider working overseas?

Nor Syazana Bt Jamaluddin (A159247)

I definitely think working overseas is a good idea because I believe that working in another
country and gaining new experiences is both personally and professionally rewarding. It is personally
rewarding in a way that it helps me to enhance my communication skills, as well as the way I think.
This is because working and living abroad requires to varying degrees, leaving my comfort zone and
finding ways to get used to new ways of doing things. It also requires me to learn new language in
which it is no doubt that it will be difficult and challenging, but it will stand me in a good stead and
something I will have for life. Apart from new languages, I also believe that working in a foreign
environment will improve my adaptability and flexibility as well as my team-working skills. I will
definitely be forced to accept different viewpoints that will inevitably boost my objectiveness, and
reasoning.

Naturally, living and working abroad will also widens my pool of friends and professional
acquaintances. Not only does this makes me a people person, but it also makes me a global, connected
candidate with contacts all over the world, in which I think is a great benefit for an employer. I also
believe that working abroad would give me a competitive edge. That is mainly because the competition
for global jobs is fierce that candidates looking to get themselves in these positions often learn new
skills to get the edge on the competition. Hence, if I were to work overseas, I believe that I will have a
diverse range of skills to make me stand out from other people. What’s great about opportunities to
work abroad is that it will also allow me to experience the local culture; this is not only interesting from
a personal perspective, but it can also help boost my professional skills. As business is not conducted
in the same manner across the world, experiencing a different way to work can help me get a better
understanding of certain practices

Last but not least, working overseas will give me a chance to grow personally. Experiencing a
new culture will make me take an inward journey which will help me understand myself more. The
various difficulties I’ll encounter abroad will also help equip me with skill sets that will make me a
better individual as well as a better professional.
