1. Anita Bhatia has been appointed as the

Empowerment of Women - UN Women.

2. Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of


India, Rajiv Mehrishi has been elected as
external auditor of the World Health
Organization (WHO).

3. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra has been appointed as the chief or Director


General (DG) of India Meteorological Department (IMD).

4. Nigeria’s Ambassador to the UN Tijjani Muhammad-Bande was


elected as the President for the 74th   session of United Nations
General Assembly (UNGA).

1. Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved


$350 million loan to rehabilitate and
upgrade two state highways and 23 major
district roads in Chhattisgarh.

2. As per Reserve Bank of India, bank frauds


have amounted to Rs 71,500 crores in
2018-19 with over 6,800 cases.

3. The RBI has initiated Financial Literacy week from June 3-7, 2019.
The theme of the event was “Farmers” and how they benefit by being a
part of the formal banking system.

4. RBI has removed charges for payments via NEFT(National


Electronic Funds Transfer) and RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement
System) and asked banks to pass on the benefits to customers. This means
that payments via NEFT and RTGS would become either free or charges
would be drastically reduced.

5. The Government of India, Tamil Nadu, and the World Bank signed
a $287 million loan agreement for the state’s Health System Reform
Programme in New Delhi.

6. World Bank in its report “Global Economic Prospects report”


retained India’s growth forecast at 7.5% for the FY-20.

1. The US has decided to roll back export


incentives given to India under the
Generalised System of Preferences (GSP).

2. Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat


Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited
(HPCL) signed an agreement to form a Joint
Venture (JV) for laying the world’s longest
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) pipeline from Kandla, Gujarat to
Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

3. FDI inflow declined to $44.37 billion (Rs 309,867 crore) in 2018-2019


from $44.86 billion in the previous year (Rs 288,889 crore) as per
Department for promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT). FDI in the
services sector grew by 36.5 percent to $9.15 billion in 2018-19.

1. Recently the government has increased


the rates of scholarship from to Rs 2,500
per month for boys and Rs 3,000 per month
for girls under ‘Prime Minister’s
Scholarship Scheme (PMSS)’ forwards of
defence personnel. The scheme is operated
under National Defence fund.

Also, the scope of the PM’s Scholarship has


now been extended to the wards of State
Police officials who were martyred during
the terror and Naxal attacks.

2. The Union government has approved monthly pension of Rs 3,000


to small traders, businessmen, and shopkeepers i.e. those having
Goods and Services Tax (GST) turnover below Rs 1.5 crores.

Age of the applicant should be between 18- 40 years and the pension
would start after the beneficiary attains the age of 60 years.

3. Union Cabinet has increased the ambit of Pradhan Mantri Kisan


Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) to all eligible farmer families,
irrespective of the size of their landholding, the decision will cover all the
14.5 crore farmers in the country.

1. The Medical and Health Department of


Rajasthan was conferred with the World
Health Organization’s (WHO) Tobacco Control
Award for 2019 in recognition of its
achievements in the field of tobacco control.

2. Former president of India, Pratibha Patil was honored with the


highest civilian award of Mexico termed “Orden Mexicana del Aguila
Azteca” (Order of the Aztec Eagle).

3. Veteran actress Sheela was conferred with Kerala’s highest J C


Daniel award for her contribution to Malayalam cinema.

4. US Novelist Tayari Jones received Women’s Prize for Fiction


worth $40,000 for her novel An American Marriage.

1. A two-day Elephanta festival of art and


culture was recently held on Elephanta-
Gharapuri (island), Mumbai to promote
tourism and culture in Maharashtra. The theme
for this year is ‘Swarang’.

2. 14th  Islamic Summit organized by


Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
summit was held in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. OIC
appointed Yousef Aldobeay as its special envoy
for Jammu & Kashmir.

3. A week-long exercise between the Indian army and the Indian Air
Force (IAF) – Kharga Prahar recently held in Punjab.

1. A recent study based on the National


Sample Survey Organization (NSSO) data
shows that India has 20.6 health workers
per 10,000 people, it is less than the World
Health Organization’s (WHO) minimum
overreach of 22.8 per 10,000 people.

2. According to the Sample Registration


System (SRS), India’s infant mortality rate
declined from 42 in 2012 to 33 in 2017.

Madhya Pradesh and Assam had the worst IMR of 47 and 44


respectively while Kerala and Tamil Nadu recorded the lowest IMR of 10
and 16 respectively.

1. Indian travellers have been ranked


second among ‘Bleisure’ travellers across
31 countries, according to a study. Indians are
second to Thai (Thailand) travellers.

2. India was ranked 95th among 129 countries in new SDG


(Sustainable Development Goals) Gender Equality Index that measures
global gender equality looking at aspects such as poverty, health,
education, literacy, political representation and equality at the workplace.

Denmark (Capital: Copenhagen, Currency: Krone) was ranked first in the


index.

3. According to the recent study “Traffic Index 2018”, analysis of the


current status of traffic mobility, Mumbai is the most traffic-congested
city among 403 cities in 56 countries with a congestion level of 65 per
cent, while New Delhi ranked fourth with congestion of 58 percent.

to the category of “city” making it the world’s
