At university, subsea technology was the most fascinating subject among the others when I was in

my third year. Moreover, it became more interesting when I joined Society Petroleum Engineers’
sharing session about the complexity of underwater pipeline. After I finish my undergraduate
degree, I successfully developed many aspects of knowledge related to Marine Technology mainly
Subsea Engineering itself and deciding to pursue further studies, through my personal research I
land my decision to Newcastle University, UK due to its remarkable quality, especially in my subject
of interest. All and all, that is why I cannot agree more that Newcastle University is the perfect place
to pursue my master degree especially in Subsea Engineering and Management.

My thesis that I conducted was research about Subsea Pipeline Risk Analysis in Abadi Gas Field due
to earthquake. Abadi Gas Field is a new discovery field that was found in Maluku. Therefore, there
was very few supporting data to predicted the actual conditions in the field. Research that I
conducted was having difficulty because the data was sparse, and many approachable calculations
should be studied and developed according to the field conditions. In addition, the area was claimed

as an earthquake-prone area but somehow (intinya dapet nilai bagus di sini…. )

In my second year of undergraduate study, I became a Secretary of Human Resources Department in

an organization called “X”. The organization was below the department itself. The following year, I
involved into two organizations at the same time which were same as the previous year but in
another position also an international organization called “Y” as a Membership Division. Being part
of them not only improve my knowledge, but also my time management and communication skills.
At the end of my third year, as a mandatory course, I took part as an Asset Integrity Intern at X an oil
and gas consultant in my country. Surprisingly, this internship made a great impact for me because it
was not only developing my responsibility, but also team working skills. Learning in a real work
industry had gained some experiences and great opportunity to put my knowledge into practical.

To face the challenge of maritime and oil gas industry in Indonesia these days such as deepwater
technology, only few universities offer excellent programme components and strategic learning
area. I found that Newcastle University will be the best place to provide me this education. Firstly,
Newcastle University known as one of the best university with its Marine Technology course in UK
with qualified professor and lecturers, captivating modules and various specialization. Secondly, the
location is strategic near the North Sea, which has known as the best offshore technology around
the world. Last but not least, studying in Newcastle University means I could learn about diversity of
multicultural student from around the world and it would be a great advantage to face the real
world of this industry. In conclusion, these three advantages I have mentioned convinced me the
most to pursue my Master Degree in Subsea Engineering and Management programme in Newcastle
University.

In conclusion, I might be not as early as other people to realize that my passion is in this industry
but, I am eager to learn and I believe that this master degree will not only affect me personally but
also will contribute to my country as I want to be a professional Subsea Engineer. I would be
honoured to have the opportunity to study at Newcastle University the next September 2018 intake.
