Beret is made with Patons 100% Cotton DK, using a 4mm crochet hook.

This pattern has a delicate texture… the simple V-
stitch adds an intriguing rib style pattern… the top of
the hat is shaped with a gathered look. perfect for
everyday wear.
Basic stitches single crochet, half double crochet,
double crochet.
This hat is made with Patons 100% Cotton DK, using a
4mm crochet hook.
The pattern starts at the top of the crown and
proceeds down to the brim and is worked in rounds.
If you want to make a smaller or larger sized hat you
will need to calculate the number of stitches needed
AND/OR use a different yarn thickness and hook size
so it fits the head circumference.
My 10cm by 10cm swatch in V-stitch (1dc, 1ch, 1dc)
produced 6 V-sts by 9 rows.
This hat will fit from 21in to 22.5in head circumference.
Before you begin:
2 1ch sp of V-st from previous row to end, join with sl st
 select your yarn and hook;
 check your gauge, adjust if necessary;

 calculate how many stitches you will need for
head circumference.
Abbreviations:
Ch = chain; sc = single crochet; dc = double crochet;
hdc = half double crochet; hdc/FP = half double
crochet front post; sl st = slip stitch; rnd = round; beg =
beginning, sp = space, st/sts = stitch/stitches.
Here is the pattern:
Rnd 1: Make a magic loop, ch3, 11dc into ring sl st in
top Ch3.
Rnd 2: Ch3, 2dc, into each st to end, (24dc) join with sl
st into ch2 of ch3.
Rnd 3: Ch3, 2dc, into each st to end, (48dc) join with sl
st into ch2 of ch3.
Rnd 4: Ch4, 1dc (counts as 1st V-st), V-st (1dc, 1ch, 1dc)
in each st to end, join with sl st into ch2 of ch4.
Rnd 5: Ch4, 1dc (counts as 1st V-st), V-st (1dc, 1ch, 1dc)
in each 1ch sp of V-st to end, join with sl st into ch2 of
ch4.
Rnd 6-11: Repeat Rnd 5.
Change V-st
Rnd 12 Ch3, 1dc (counts as 1st V-st), V-st (2dc) in each
into ch2 of ch3.
Rnd 13-14: Ch3, 1dc (counts as 1st V-st), V-st (2dc) in
each sp of V-st to end, join with sl st into ch2 of ch3.

Rnd 15-17: Ch3, 1dc (counts as 1st V-st), *1dc in next V-st
sp, V-st in next 3 V-st sp, repeat from * to end, join
with sl st into ch2 of ch3.

Decrease Rnd

Rnd 18: Ch3, 1dc (counts as 1st V-st), *V-st in each V-st
sp, skip 1dc, repeat from * to end, join with sl st into
ch2 of ch3.

Rnd 19-20: Ch3, 1dc (counts as 1st V-st), *V-st in each V-

st sp, repeat from * to end, join with sl st into ch2 of
ch3.

Rib Band

Rnd 21: Ch2, hdc in every st to end, (72hdc) join with sl

st.

Rnd 22: Ch2, * 1hdc/FP, 1hdc in next st, repeat from *

to end, join with sl st.

Rnd 23-24: Repeat Rnd 22 making sure your 1hdc/FP

are lined up so you end up with a “rib” pattern.-

Finish: Cut yarn and hide ends.
