INTRODUCTION

The cumulative unemployment rate has been a long social issue in the
Philippines. According to the latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA),
around 1.4 million Filipino men and 783 000 women are unemployed. High
unemployment rate in the country leads to social and economic problems in the
community as a whole.

In line with resolving this societal concern, “Helping Hands”, a group from
General Engineering-1B targets to help constituents from a chosen community in giving
livelihood and business ideas. There are lots of ideas and opportunities a family or an
individual can come up with to increase the source of income. However, it is hard to
come up with an easy, affordable, and capital-friendly business.

Hence, the organization plans to introduce the project concept “T-Shirt Printing:
We Design, We Print, We Care” whereas the community will be taught of how to design
and print old shirts. These upcycled shirts can be sold into inexpensive prices. Aside
from earning, residents who don’t have jobs or are still in-search for careers can greatly
benefit from this because it can increase productivity and lessen boredom. T-shirt
printing has been named as one of the hottest 2018 fashion trends since it’s easy and
do-it-yourself designs have never been out of style.

“Small opportunities are often the beginning of great achievements” (J.K.

Galbraith). Almost all quality improvement comes via simplification of design,
manufacturing, layout, processes, and procedures.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Unemployment is serious problem that our government faces. Our leaders are
trying their utmost best to solve it wisely. If it is not solved sooner, a social revolution
may take plea to have its solution.
The economists describe unemployment as a condition of jobless within an
economy. Unemployment is lack of utilization of resources and it eats up the production
of the economy. It can be concluded that unemployment is inversely related to
productivity of the economy. The history of unemployment is directly related to history of
industrialization. It leads to unwanted job losses and willing workers without job.

Economic problems result in less production of goods and services, less

distribution of income, loss of tax revenues, fall in GDP rate etc. Social problems cause
social ills and shows effect on individuals financially and psychologically. Individuals
cannot meet their financial obligations on time and getting high stress which leads to
problems like ill-health, premature death, suicides etc. (Clark, 2003).

With this, Helping Hands has thought of a positive asset to creating a reasonably
priced enterprise – t-shirt printing. This is easy and it can help the community to earn
enough money for daily living.

T-shirt printing is simple and is inexpensive to produce if the right printing

technique and the right design-making for the garments will be taught.
