Students (or their parents) must provide documentation to prove their Illinois residency to be eligible for the State of Illinois
Monetary Award Program (MAP) grant.

DEPENDENT INDEPENDENT

A dependent student is a resident of Illinois if the parent of the
dependent-applicant is required by the instructions to complete
the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); physically
resides within the State of Illinois; and Illinois is his or her true,
fixed and permanent home. If your parents’ permanent residency
changed after you completed your FAFSA, then your proof must
be dated on or after the date you filed your FAFSA.
Please attach proof of your parent’s Illinois residency using
one of the following:
¨ Parent’s Illinois driver’s license or state ID
¨ Parent’s 2018 wage and tax statement or W2’s
¨ Parent’s 2018 valid state or federal income tax return
¨ Parent’s Illinois voter’s registration card
¨ Parent’s residential lease
¨ Parent’s utility or rent bills
¨ Parent’s 2018 property tax bill
¨ Parent’s Illinois auto registration card
¨ Parent’s 2018 Statement of Benefits from the
Illinois Department of Public Aid
¨ Parent’s 2018 Statement of Benefits from the
Illinois Department of Employment Security
¨ Parent’s 2018 Statement of Benefits from the
Social Security Administration
NOTE: The documents listed above are the most commonly used to prove Illinois residency. You may include documents from multiple Illinois addresses.
If you cannot provide any of these, there are other options we can consider. Contact the Financial Aid Office to discuss alternative documentation.
An independent student is a resident of Illinois if the
applicant physically resides within the State of Illinois
(at the time of application); has so resided for a period of 12
continuous, full months immediately prior to the start of the
academic year for which assistance is requested; and Illinois is his
or her true, fixed and permanent home.
Please attach proof that you have resided in Illinois
for 12 consecutive months prior to the start of the term.
