Foreword
This translation has been made based on the original Japanese Industrial Standard re'
vised by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry through deliberations at the
Japanese Industrial Standards Committee as the result of proposal for revision of
(JSSA)
Japarr""e Industrial Standard submitted by Japan Stainless Steel Association
/Japanese Standards Association (JS$ with the draft being attached, based on the
pro'
. vision of Article 12 Clause 1 of the Industrial Standardization Law applicable to the
case ofrevision by the provision ofArticle 14.
] Being in conformance with this Standard may come under the use of the patent rights
held by the following.
Title of invention Patent number (Registration
Designation
of grade date ofestab'
lishment of
patent right)
The relevant holders of the above'mentioned industrial property rights have indicated
to the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee an intention of granting Iicense to
anyone under the nondiscriminatory and reasonable conditions, except to the other
holders of the industrial property rights related to this Standard who will not grant
their licenses under the same conditions.
It should be noted that following this Standard does not always refer to granting a free
Iicense.
Attention is d.rawn to the possibility that some parts of this Standard may conflict with
patent rights as other than mentioned above. The Minister of Economy, Trade and In-
dustry and Japanese Ind.ustrial Standards Committee are not responsible for identifu'

Introduction
*me*iils f*r $tarl*arc*s, ffiatflrlcuy affid t: , I
This Japanese Industrial Standard has been prepared based on the fi.rst edition of
ISO 16143-1 published in 2004 and the first editions of ISO 9445-L and ISO 9445'2
published in 2009 with some modifications of the technical contents.
The portions given eontinuous sidelines are the matters in which the contents of the
corresponding International Standards have been modified. A list of modifications with
explanations is given in Annex JB.
I 1 Scope
This Standard specifies the cold-rolled stainless steel plates and sheets (hereafter
referred. to as "plates") and cold-rolled stainless steel strip (hereafter referred to as
"strip").
NOTE : The International Standards corresponding to this Standard and the
symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows :
ISO 16143 -L | 2OO4 Stainless steels for general pulposes Part I : FIat
products -
ISO 9445-1 : 2009 Continuously cold-rolled stainless steel Tolerances
on dimensions and form Part 1 Narow strip and cut lengths
: -
-
ISO 9445-2: 2OOg Continuously cold-rolled stainless steel Tolerances
on dimensions and form
-
Part 2 : Wide strip and sheet/plate (Overall
evaluation : MOD) -
The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents
between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical),
U MOD (modifred, and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guid.e
2L.L.
2 Normative references
The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text,
constitute provisions of this Standard. The most recent editions of the standards (in-
cluding amendments) indicated below shall be applied.

Notes d When it is required that the designation indicates that the product is plates, the
symbol - CP shall be suffixed. to the designation of grade.

b) When it is required that the designation indicates that the product is strip, the
symbol - CS shall be suffrxed to the designation of grade.
Example SUS304-CS
1 Manufacturingmethod.
The manufacturing method shall be as follows.
d Plates and strip shall be heat treated after cold'rolling and glven acid pickling or
an equivalent treatment. As required, levelling, grinding, temper rolling or a com-
bination of these treatments may be performed. For plates and strip gLven bright
heat treatment, however, treatments such as acid pickling may be omitted upon
agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer.
NOTE : Representative heat treatment conditions are shown in Annex JA for
reference. Other conditions than given in the Annex can be applied.
b) For plates or strip of SUS420J2 and SUS440A, if especially designated by the pur-
chaser, quenching and tempering may be performed. In this case, symbol Q shall be
attaehed to the designation.
c) For plates or strip of SUS630 and SUS63L, the purchaser shall designate either the
solution treatment or precipitation hardening treatment. In this case, a symbol in-
dieating the type of heat treatment given in table 2 shall be attached to the desig-
nation.
5 Chemical composition
5.1 Heat analysis values
Plates and strip shall be tested in accordance with 11.1, and the obtained heat analy-
sis values shall satisfy the requirements in table 3 to table 7.
5.2 Produet analysis values

ble 7 within the tolerances given in table 5 of JIS G 0321. However, the tolerances for
elements not given in table 5 of JIS G 0321 may be as agreed between the purchaser
and the manufacturer.
