i.

For this experiment we had to:

 Optimum the temperature of enzyme activity.
 Determinate the different reaction rates of catalase activity due to the different
temperatures to which is subjected.

ii. Either the table and the graph show the volume of oxygen produced per unit of time
(per minute) at different temperatures (room t°, 37° and 100°).

We first started with the room temperature tube. In the first minute, there was not
oxygen produced at all (0cm3) but then, as the minutes pass, the 02 began to increase
“1cm3 by 1cm3”: minute 2: 1cm3; minute 3: 2cm3; minute 4: 3cm3, however, though
the number continued growing, there was an significant increment from the forth
minute to the fifth one, which 5,5cm3 of oxygen was obtained.
Going on, we focused on the maria bath tube (37°). Comparing it to the fist sample, this
one started the first minute with 2cm3 and had an abrupt elevation of 8cm3 in the
second minute and the numbers continued going up as well, even though the increasing
wasn´t “unexpected”: minute 3: 9,5cm3; minute 4: 11,6cm3; minute 5: 12,8cm3.

Therefore, both successions of results were in a continuing variation during the five
minutes, starting with low numbers but finishing with high concentrations, nonetheless,
the last tube, boiled at 100°, presented consistency due to the same amount of volume
formed in each minute: 0cm3. Indeed, there was no change from the first minute to the
last 30 seconds.

iii. With respect to the uncertainties came by, in my personal experience I didn´t expect to
find clear elevations of volumes from one minute to other, such as the case of the tube
1 (3cm3 to 5,5cm3) or the second tube (2cm3 to 8cm3), nevertheless, I was astonished
to the fact of the same product of volume, which was nothing basically, in the 100° tube.

From the mentioned results, I can conclude that the more temperature there is, the
more abrupt increases would happen to a point that, due to the extremely high t°, the
enzymes will just stop working and so there won´t be even an amount to study about.

iv. To be honest, I consider that this experiment didn´t demonstrated “outstanding”

failures or limitations but, as usually happen in most of the labs, having just one adult at
our disposing generates that waste some minutes on continuing the procedure,
however, it´s not really “to die for”.
