Content Standard:
The learner demonstrates understanding of how Anglo-American Literature and other
text types serve as means of valuing other people; also how to use processing information
strategies, different forms of adverbs and conditionals for him/her to play an active part in a
Chamber Theatre presentation.
Performance Standard:
The learner proficiently plays an active part in a Chamber Theatre presentation through
employing effective verbal and non- verbal strategies based on the following criteria: Focus,
Voice, Delivery, Facial Expressions, Style and Body Movements or Gestures.
Formation Standard:
The learners will become Vincentians who are grateful and contented of God’s
masterpieces.

Encounters 1-2
Introduction
Motivation
o Let the students observe the following pictures and ask the following question:
Which of the photos are more attractive than the other? Why?

o Write the words “literal” and “figurative” on the board.
o Ask the students to differentiate the two words.
Discuss and let the students read what figurative language is.
o Figurative language creates figures (pictures) in the mind of the reader or listener.
These pictures help convey the meaning faster and more vividly than words alone.
o We use figures of speech in "figurative language" to add color and interest, and to
awaken the imagination.
Using a PowerPoint presentation, discuss the first four figures of speech.
o Simile
o Metaphor
o Hyperbole
o Personification
Give examples for each figures of speech.
Integration

To check the understanding of the students, ask the following questions:
o What is a figure of speech?
o How many figures we have just discussed?
o Define and give example of a figure of speech we discussed.

BRIDGING FIGURATIVES
o Directions: Work in group. Use/perform the following activities to construct
sentences/phrases using the varied figures of speech.
o GROUP 1-Make/compose a poem you’re your genre in free verse or in rhyme
scheme using simile and metaphor.
o GROUP 2- Compose a song with your own lyrics and melody in your chosen genre
using personification and hyperbole.
o GROUP 3- Make/compose a jingle with own genre using onomatopoeia, alliteration
o GROUP 4- Make a short role play with your own theme/concept using irony and
apostrophe.
Integration
Individual Activity
o Let the students write a poem with at least 5 examples of figurative language.
Collect poems.
