American Mindfulness Research Association (US)
This association is made up of scientists—ranging from neuroscientists to psychologists—
and meditation practice communities. AMRA seeks to conduct empirical research about
the benefits of meditation. If you are interested in receiving a monthly update about
scientific papers featuring meditation, subscribe to AMRA’s newsletter.

National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (US)

The center provides an objective view of meditation from a national health authority.
Topics include a definition of meditation, a review of scientific research about the effi-
cacy of meditation, effects of meditation on the brain, and so forth. This site’s content is
created by medical doctors.

Oxford Mindfulness Centre (UK)

Founded within Oxford University’s Department of Psychiatry in pursuit of scholarship,
science, and evidence-based medicine.

This site is an excellent resource for those just starting out with meditation. It includes
information on different meditation forms, information on equipment, and even a sup-

The Dark Night Project

This site is a resource for meditators who have suffered psychiatric problems after medi-
tating. Testimonials from this organization are referenced in a lengthy article in Atlantic
(see Rocha 2014 in the Skepticism Resources entries).

The official partner of CFA Institute in providing meditation education.

A pay site featuring many secular forms of meditation, including guided meditations,
and helpful ways of tracking your progress.

This site is a good resource for information about meditation generally. Many different
types of meditation are described, with examples. Predominately, the site focuses on
secular forms of meditation, although there are references to nonsecular forms, too.

Mindful Magazine
