The document discusses the use of punishment versus positive reinforcement in an organizational behavior context. It notes that while punishment can effectively stop an unwanted behavior in the short term, it often only suppresses the behavior and can lead to negative motivation or retaliation. Positive reinforcement is suggested to be more effective as it increases willingness to perform by regularly rewarding desired behaviors. An example is given of the author's authoritarian father who punished them with public shaming for being late to work, which successfully ensured they were never late again but made them feel embarrassed.

1)What conditions, if any, do you think justify the use of
punishment?
Before demonstrate the conditions to justify the use of punishment i have
to say that punishment has also negative effects. And these negative effects greatly outweigh punishment’s positive effects. To support the idea of using punishment we must look at the positive effects of the punishment.
-Punishment is an extremely useful technique to teach a person
what NOT to do.
-Punishing a behavior , NOT a person.(This is so important that
punishing an unwilling behavior may not be occured again but if the punishment is presented as a personal attack it discourged the employee and may motivate him/her negatively.
-It is beter do the punnishment once than do the reinforcement
often. To prevent an unwilling behavior you must do a reinforcement OFTEN or do the punishment ONCE.The second option is the easiest way to avoid unwanted behaviours.
2)Do you think the most managers use punishment ? If so , WHY?
I think most executives do not USE punishment. As I wrote above the punishment’s negative effects greatly outweigh its positive effects.
-Punishment often results in a mere suppression of the undesirable
behavior. (he punished person discovers that it is advisable to stop doing whatever incurred the punishment, but that the same behavior can be tried again as soon as the punishment becomes less probable.)
-Punishment may leads to retaliatory behavior.(the employee may be
upset due to the punishment and revenge feelings may be triggered by the punishment.)
3) Downside of using PUNISHMENT
-Punishment may leads to retaliatory behavior
-Punishment often results in a mere suppression of the undesirable behavior -Punishment may motive the employee negatively. -May decrease job satisfaction.
POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT
-Increases the willing level of the positive reinforcements by doing the
positive reinforcement often.(employee may desire a reward after a successful mission but if he/she cant receive anything , the efficency may decrease / may be motivated negatively / may caued the increase of turnover rate.It may create an addiction.
4)Have you ever worked of a boss who used punishment ?What was your behavioral response.
I have worked in our family company for a while. My father was my
boss.He is an authoritative boss.He never show tolerance about being late to the work. One day i couldnt get up early so i was late to work. When i come upon with him at the company in the morning that i was late on he began to shouted to me and everyone was watching my father while he was shouting to me.I was embbarressed to say anything to my father because he was right. This was the last day i go the the work late.
