Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Hanang Pandu Himawan, and I am a final year Civil Engineering student at Bandung
Institute of Technology. I am interested to take part in the AOTULE Exchange program held by
Tokyo Institute of Technology primarily in the transport planning research study. I received this
exchange information from my campus International Relation Office and I am very happy to know
that my campus is on the list as one of partner universities that eligible to join this exchange
program.
In the following, I will give several reasons why I would like to go on AOTULE program. Firstly,
Japan transportation system is very interesting for my field of study. Japan has prominent for its
outstanding transportation system with million kilometers of paved roads, breakthrough
Shinkansen bullet train, and its efficient airport. Because of this excellent system, Japan has
become one of the pilot countries in improving the efficiency of the transportation and I would
like to learn more on how that situation has been developed.
Secondly, research study offered in this exchange program is very interesting to me. I am really
pleased to be in a research environment and I see the syllabus offered in this program strongly
supports my interest. Moreover, I see that transport planning is on the list of supported courses.
After graduating from undergraduate, I plan to take masters in transportation planning and with
this program I hope I will have more deep-understanding in what transport planning is. Tokyo
Tech also has many prominent transport-planning professors and is an honor for me can be taught
and guided to do research by them directly.
Thirdly, travelling to Japan has been on my to do list for years and this exchange provides me the
possibility to do that. Experiencing cultural and educational differences and learning to deal with
them are some fun I will meet while living in Japan.
There are several reasons why I am a good ambassador for Bandung Institute of Technology in
this exchange program. Firstly, I have been proven to be passionate about transportation, as
evidenced by many awards I got in some papers on transportation planning competition. I received
the best paper for my research in transit-oriented development, electronic road pricing, and
transportation modeling. I am also involved in many feasibility study projects about future
transportation modes collaborating with my lecturer.
Secondly, I am a person who actively in organization and social activities apart from studying and
this is recognized by the title of The Most Outstanding Student I get from my faculty.
Lastly, I am quite satisfied with the level of the program I follow and with the level of the lecturers.
I have almost only had positive experiences during my time at Bandung Institute of Technology,
so I would like to share that with the people I meet on exchange.
I would welcome the opportunity to meet you and give a further explanation on my motivation.
Thank you for considering my application,
Yours sincerely,
