Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The students will engage with other classmates to discuss the weather of each season and the events that
take place during each season. The students will use computing devices to search for photos for each of the
four seasons.

The material will be provided in multiple ways. For visual learner, there will be a PowerPoint with photos as
well as a script to follow along. For auditory learners, there will be audio reading each slide of the
PowerPoint. The PowerPoint itself with photos will support students with disabilities, as they can re watch or
listen as many times as needed.

The students can create their PowerPoint however they wish as long as it follows the guidelines of discussing
the four seasonal changes. This gives students the opportunity to be creative and choose photos and events
for each season.

For students who are English Learners, I can use google translate to translate the PowerPoint into the ELL’s
language.
Lesson idea implementation:

I will start out by asking the class what time of year is your favorite? Most students will probably respond with
summer, but I will allow each student to answer. I will explain what the word “season” means as well as
explain the four seasons, spring, summer, fall, winter. I will show the students some examples of events that
take place in each of the four seasons as well as weather conditions. I will show a tutorial on Microsoft Office
PowerPoint and how it works. I will divide the class into groups of four, so each group member will have one
season. I will have the students work on computers in the classroom or computer lab to create their
PowerPoint on seasons.

Basic Productivity Tools (BPT)

The PowerPoint will consist of a title slide and then two slides per season. For the seasons, one slide should
have the name of the season with a photo. The second slide should have a detail about that season with a
photo. The students can be as creative as they wish. I will have a checklist to check off for each slide (title
slide and two slides per season- one with the season name and the other with a detail about that season). I
will then have each group share their PowerPoints with the class. After every group has presented, I will
conclude by having each student share one thing they learned during this lesson. For extensions on this
lesson, I would allow the students to choose a topic and relate it to one of the four seasons.

Reflective Practice:

This will allow students to learn about the four seasons and their weather conditions as well as events that
occur during that specific season. The students are learning a standard based lesson also while incorporating
technology by using Microsoft Office PowerPoint. PowerPoint has many more features in which we did not
use in this lesson. I could have the students explore with slide transitions, word art, etc. I could also have the
students use the web to research more information about the four seasons.
