Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1. I have qualified the IMU's CET. How do I take admission in IMU Campuses?

Ans. The list of Qualified Candidates is given on IMU's website. Once the Candidate
has qualified and is desirous of taking Admission in IMU Campuses, they have
to register for Online Counselling. The link for the Online Counselling portal is
available on IMU's website. Through this, link you have to login into your
account using the Login ID (Application Number) and Password used to Access
the CET Account. After logging-in the candidate has to fill up the Counselling
form and make payment of Rs. 10,000/- to submit their Counselling Form. For
the complete selection, process please read the instructions given on the link
for Online Counselling.
Q2. How do I select my Preferences for IMU Campuses?

Ans. Kindly go through the Eligibility Criteria for Admissions to the various
programmes of IMU carefully. Based on your Academic Eligibility and Medical
Eligibility select the preferences of Programme and the IMU Campus where
you wish to take admissions. Please choose as many options as possible
carefully to maximise your chances of you getting a seat. The most desired
Programme and Campus should be kept as First Preference and ending with
least desired. Once submitted no changes will be entertained. It is advised
that you may take the help of your parent(s) or any adult while doing so. The
allotment of seat depends on Rank, Social Category, your preferences and
availability of Vacancy. For complete details please read the Counselling
related Instructions given on the Online Counselling Portal.
Q3. How do I know that my Counselling Form has been successfully submitted?

Ans. After completing the Online Counselling Registration, after payment, a


Payment Receipt will be generated and a confirmation Email and SMS will be
sent to your registered Email Address and Mobile Number. Through your login,
please download a copy of the Online Counselling Form submitted by you for
your future reference.
Q4. My name appeared in the First List, what next I should do?
Ans. First List will be published as per timeline as mentioned in the Portal. You
have to log-in to the portal and download the Provisional Allotment Letter.
Further, you need to pay Programme Fees (Non-Refundable) of Rs.25,000/-
within the stipulated date failing which you will be treated as ‘drop-out’ and
you will not be considered for upgradation as well as no refund of Counselling
Fee will be made.
Q5. If my name doesn't appear in first Admission List what should I do?

Ans. If your name doesn't appear in the First Admission List and you have a good
rank please check the last rank allotted with the Programme and Campus
Choice which you have given in your preference and accordingly you can
assess whether you will have a chance in the subsequent Admission Lists. IMU
doesn't guarantee allotment of seat only because you have registered for
Online Counselling. For complete details please read Counselling Instructions
given on the Counselling Portal.
Q6. Whether rounding off the percentage of Physics, Chemistry and Maths are
allowed, while filling up of the online application?

Ans. No. Rounding off is not permitted.

Q7. I have applied for Online Counselling of IMU and paid requisite fees, however,
I joined in the ‘X’ Affiliated Institute, whether the amount of Rs.10,000/- will
be adjustable?
Ans. Adjustment will not be done.

Q8. Through IMU's Online Counselling, will I get admission to the Affiliated
Institutes of IMU?
Ans. No. If you are an IMU's CET qualified candidate, for admissions to Affiliated
Institutes you have to directly approach the Institute for taking admissions.
Q9. What is difference between DNS leading to B.Sc (Applied Nautical Science)
and B.Sc (Nautical Science) Programme?
Ans. DNS leading to B.Sc (Applied Nautical Science) programme is a one year
Diploma programme. If the student wishes to obtain a B.Sc Degree, the
student will require to undergo 18-months on-board training on a Ship.
Thereafter appear for the 3rd, 4th and 5th Semester Examinations conducted
by IMU and the Second Mate Examination conducted by DG Shipping's Office.
On clearing the above exams, the student will become eligible for B.Sc
(Applied Nautical Science) Degree.
B.Sc (Nautical Science) on the other hand is a regular 3-year Degree
Programme conducted by IMU.
Q10. In which situation, the Counselling Fees is refundable?

Ans. Refund of Rs.9000/- will be done only if a candidate fails to get an allotment
of seat in any of the Admission Lists published by IMU.
Q11. Though I got a seat in Second List, which is 3rd preference but I don’t want to
join. Will the Counselling Fees be refundable?
Ans. No.

Q12. Do I need to write to IMU for seeking refund, if I am not allotted any seat in
any of the Admission lists published by IMU?
Ans. No. All candidates who registered for Online Counselling but have not been
allotted any seat in any of the Admission Lists published by IMU, they will be
granted refund automatically. They are not required to write to IMU. This
Process will be started only after 20th August 2019.
Q13. Whom should I contact for further queries?

Ans. Please send your queries to counselling19@imu.ac.in. Kindly note that the
information which were already mentioned in the IMU Portal and Academic
Brochure 2019-20 will not be entertained in the email.
