Memo – Installation of air blasters

To Holcim

Copies to Aleksandra Matuszewska, Michael Simonsen

From Lars Kuur
Filing
Subject line Summary of discussions concerning the installation of air blasters on Narogong
plant.

Hello

This memo will cover the following topics:

• Summary of the FLS air-blaster design

• What you at this point in time has informed about your plans for
the air-blaster system.
• Comments to your choices of design

Summary of the FLS air-blaster design

We supply the following:

- 5 inlet wall air blasters.

- 3 grate air blasters in each side. In total 6
- A pressure regulator w. various other components (exit tube size
½".)
- ½" tubing to connect everything from the regulator and onwards.
- All accessories needed

Also refer to drawing 10294488.

The exact firing sequence for your blasters is decided by the

commissioning engineer. But an example of the timing is cycle times of
10 to 25 minutes on the grate blasters closest to the kiln and 25 to 50
minutes on the ones furthest from the kiln. You only fire the wall
blasters when you have build-ups. Build-ups only happen when you
have strong fluctuations in the process. With a stable process the grate
blasters should most of the time do the job alone.

What you at this point in time has informed about your plans for
the air-blaster system.

You intend to make the following modifications:

- Install 2 airblasters in each side of the horseshoe (4 in total). I

have given you the drawings from our MMC ABC installations
where we do the same; I recommend you install them like this.
- Upgrade 4 of the 5 inlet wall tanks to 200L from 100L
- Install 2 airblasters above the 5 at the inlet wall
- Use steel braided high temperature flexible hoses to make the
connection to the actual airblasters
- Install pressure gauges and pressure transducers on all
airblasters (except the 2 blast pipes (?)), this will be secured in a
cabinet.
- Not use any pressure regulator. Connect directly to your
dedicated compressor system.

Further you have informed me that you will not connect the system to
plant air, but rather make a dedicated system. The system consists of
the following:

- 24.2 Nm^3/min compressor

- Max pressure 10 bar
- 4000 L tank on the ground
- 2000 L tank next to the airblasters

Your intention is then to let the airblaster pressure fluctuate between

two set values and use the compressor to top up when necessary. Your
system will have a fall-over to plant air in case of compressor failure.

Comments to your choices of design

I have informed you that I do not mind you choosing to upgrade the
system even though I have informed you that it should not be
necessary. But I understand you concern seeing how your new IKN inlet
is running. I therefore assist with drawings and suggestions for how we
can best implement your upgrades.

Your choice not to use a pressure regulator is however not an

upgrade. It is a significant downgrade of your system. You have a
compressor that enables you to use up to 10 bars in the system. This
you can then regulate to 6 bars. With all your buffer tanks filled with 10
bars you will only have to run the compressor a fraction of the time. To
emphasize my point I show the following two graphs:

The calculations are made specific for your configuration. They have a
degree of uncertainty but the general trend should be clear. If you let
the compressor give you full pressure you can have many more shots
before you need to tip-up. If you use no regulator and range from 7 to 6
bars you must start the compressor after 6 shots of 200L or 7 with
150L. If you go from 10 bar to 6 bar you can fire the 150L tanks 24
times before you need to fill up. This will give you less maintenance and
in time you may choose to install a smaller compressor or let this
compressor supply to plant air also.

I have also been informed that you have a flow regulator with bigger
capacity to meet the demands of the added airblasters.

I urge you to reconsider installing a pressure regulator. It will give you

money saved and a more stable airblaster system.

Yours sincerely
