According to him, there are also times when the rubbish is not collected for
several days, causing the site to be a magnet for animals such as stray dogs and
even monkeys.
The resident also highlighted that the provided waste disposal container was
simply placed on the road, resulting in less driving room for road users.
“There was also a burning area next to the disposal site. It is not only an eyesore
but also an unhealthy practice among the residents. It could harm not only the
residents but also the environment,” he added, suggesting that the government
needs to intervene to rectify the problem.
“It is also important to teach the residents how to properly dispose of their rubbish
and educate them on the dangers of open burning, especially around the
residential area. This is important so that the community will learn how to
maintain the cleanliness of the area in which they are living.”

REACTION
The article that talks about “Resident lifts lid on rubbish woes at RPN Kg Tanah Jambu”
is my choice for two reasons. Aside from the fact that this article is about my chosen country
Brunei, I chose this because I know that our country Philippines is also affected with the same
situation. We all know that rubbish disposal is one common problem in almost all countries around
the world. Thus, I find this article very much interesting.
I agree that garbage can make people sick. Therefore, we need to dispose our wastes
properly. After I read this article, I really felt sad and worried about their rubbish woes. I really
feel their concern because for me, we have the same situation here in our City. A lot of Cebuanos
are also worried about the waste disposal problems in our own City of Cebu. It was even reported
in one of our local newspapers, Cebu Daily News on its May 18, 2019 issue with article entitled
“Binaliw Residents’ call to Labella: Landfill threat to our health, close it.” This local article has
the same message with the article that I chose.
After reading this, my opinion has not changed and I still find the news very interesting
and has a lot of lessons that is also applicable in our country. For me, everyone should know that
we have the same situation with our fellow Asians in Brunei. And again, as a student, I know I
cannot do anything to change the situation except to pray. But I know, in my own little ways, the
problem on rubbish can be minimized if I will practice the different ways in proper garbage
disposal. For me, change should start from our selves.
