Preparations

1 Introduction

This instruction describes how to configure Native Ethernet traffic in MINI-LINK

TN.

1.1 Conventions
Document and typographic conventions are described in the Library
Description, Reference [5].

2 Safety Information
Make sure that the information in the following documents has been understood
by the persons performing the procedures:
• Personal Health and Safety Information, Reference [8]
• System Safety Information, Reference [11]
• Supplementary Safety Information for MINI-LINK, Reference [10]

3 Preparations

This section presents the preparations needed for a successful completion

of the procedures in this instruction.

3.1 Planning for L1 Radio Link Bonding

It is recommended that Planning and Dimensioning L1 Radio Link Bonding,
Reference [9] is read through in advance when an NE shall be configured with
Ethernet over multiple radios, to be able to plan the configuration in an optimal
way. Otherwise the configuration may take longer time, and negative impact
such as traffic disturbances may occur.

3.2 Additional Preparations

Consider the following additional preparations:

• Read through all applicable sections and make sure referenced documents
are available.

• Access the NE using MINI-LINK Craft. For more information, see Accessing
a Network Element, Reference [1].

Configuring Native Ethernet

1. A configuration of Ethernet is set up for Native Ethernet with Radio Link

Inverse Multiplexing for Ethernet (RL-IME).

2. WAN and LAN is configured, and for the connection between them either of
the following is used:

• Ethernet Switch

• Ethernet Private Line (EPL)

If an Ethernet Switch is used, LAG and VLAN is also configured.

The node must be equipped with the following hardware:

• NPU3 B

• MMU2 D (HW release R1B or higher) or MMU2 H

See also the following for overview information: Native Ethernet Configuration
Flowchart, Reference [7].

4.1 Configuring Native Ethernet Using the Ethernet Switch

The following are the main steps when configuring Native Ethernet using the
Ethernet switch:

1. Configure the radio links, see Configuration Management Operations,

Reference [4].

2. Configure the Packet Link capacity, see Section 5 on page 4.

3. Activate the Ethernet switch, see Configuring Ethernet, Reference [3].

4. Connect the WAN and LAN interfaces to the switch ports, see Configuring
Ethernet, Reference [3].

5. Configure LAG at the Ethernet switch, see Configuring Ethernet, Reference

[3].

6. Configure a VLAN and add the switch ports to the VLAN, see Configuring
Ethernet, Reference [3].

7. Configure the switch ports, see Configuring Ethernet, Reference [3].

After these steps, it is possible to continue with the following configurations (see
Configuring Ethernet, Reference [3]):
• Spanning Tree
• Traffic Class Queues
• Static Unicast Filtering
• Static Multicast Filtering
• MAC Address White Lists

• LAN-DCN Interfaces

4.2 Configuring Native Ethernet Using EPL

The following are the main steps when configuring Native Ethernet using EPL:

1. Configure the radio link, see Configuration Management Operations,

Reference [4].

2. Configure the Packet Link capacity, see Section 5 on page 4.

3. Connect the WAN and LAN interfaces to Layer 1 and create an EPL, see
Configuring Ethernet, Reference [3].

5 Configuring RL-IME

This section describes how to configure Native Ethernet over a Packet Link
connection over a hop with MMU2 D.

When the Packet Link is assigned to the RL-IME and Save is clicked, a new
WAN interface is added in the Management Tree. To locate the new WAN
interface, expand Ethernet and WAN Interfaces The new WAN interface has
the same physical name (Subrack/Position/Port) as the RL-IME.

Note: There are a maximum of seven WAN interfaces available in the NE. For
example, if six WAN interfaces are used by the PDH-IMEs in one ETU3
or ETU2 B, only one WAN interface is available for RL-IME on NPU3 B.

The WAN interface can be connected to a port on the Ethernet switch or be

used in an Ethernet Private Line configuration:

• See Configuring Ethernet, Reference [3] for instructions on how to use the
WAN interface with the Ethernet switch.

• See Configuring Ethernet, Reference [3] for instructions on how to use the
WAN interface in an Ethernet Private Line configuration.

For information about how to change from Ethernet over PDH to Native
Ethernet, see Changing from Ethernet over PDH to Native Ethernet, Reference
[2].

Configuring RL-IME

5.1 Configuring Single Link

This section describes how to configure Native Ethernet over a single Packet
Link.

1. In the Management Tree, right-click the MMU2 D and click Configure

Radio Link.

2. Set the desired number of E1s at the Far End and the Near End.

The Number of E1s is set to < (maximum number – 1). Set the same
value at the Near End and Far End.

The Packet Link capacity is indirectly set to the remaining number of E1s.

3. Click Save in the toolbar.

At both the Near End and the Far End, perform the following:

4. In the Management Tree, open the NPU3 B, right-click an RL-IME, and

click Configuration.

5. Assign one of the presented packet links to the RL-IME.

6. Click Save in the toolbar.

5.2 Configuring an RL-IME Group

This section describes how to configure Ethernet over multiple Packet Links.

The maximum bit rate of the aggregated Packet Links is 830 Mbit/s, which
corresponds to 790 Mbit/s at the WAN interface for 2048 bit packets.

Note: Radio Links running in Multiple-link mode cannot be configured with

Adaptive Modulation, unless the Adaptive Modulation is configured with
static frame formats, that is, Min Modulation is equal to Max Modulation.

Adaptive Modulation can be used in Radio Links with Single-link mode

enabled.
