 Forum  Best  Practices  

Here  are  a  couple  of  helpful  hints  to  using  the  discussion  forum  to  further  your  learning  
experience:  

• When  creating  a  new  post,  first  check  to  make  sure  there  isn’t  an  existing  post  
on  the  same  topic.  
• Choose  the  appropriate  post  type.  “Question”  should  be  used  for  posts  where  a  
specific  answer  desired  on  a  topic,  and  “Discussion”  should  be  used  for  posts  
that  do  not  necessarily  have  an  answer.  
• Be  descriptive  when  choosing  a  title  for  your  post.  If  you  are  reporting  a  bug,  
begin  your  title  with  the  tag  “[BUG]”.  If  you  need  the  teaching  staff  to  see  your  
post,  please  begin  your  title  with  the  tag  “[STAFF]”.  
• On  each  video  page  of  the  lecture  sequences,  there  is  a  link  at  the  bottom  that  
says  “Show  Discussion”.  Clicking  on  this  link  will  show  all  discussion  posts  on  the  
forum  associated  with  this  particular  video.  
• When  specifying  equations  in  your  posts,  enclose  your  equations  with  the  dollar  
sign  ($)  to  activate  “math  mode”  (or  MathJax).  If  you  want  to  practice,  go  to  the  
discussion  forum  and  try  typing  the  following  text  into  the  text  box:    

$E_{mass}  =  m  \cdot  c^2$  

• Actively  upvote  other  posts,  and  other  people  will  upvote  yours!  The  more  
upvotes  your  post  has,  the  more  likely  it  is  to  be  seen.  Don’t  forget  to  upvote  
your  own  posts!
