IV. PROCEDURES

Review:
1. What are the personal safety protocol to avoid dehydration, overexertion, hypo and hyperthermia during
MVPA’s participation
 Adequate water replacement is the most important in preventing heat. Drinking about 6 -8 ounces of cool water
every 15-20 minutes during exercise is ideal to prevent dehydration.
 A useful physical indicator of overtraining is a slightly elevated morning heart rate(4 or 5 beats more than normal
values)
 If you lose too much water or if your body temperature rises to high, you may suffer from heat disorder such as heat
A. Activity exhaustion or heat stroke. TO exercise safely, watch for the signals of heat disorder, regardless of the weather.
 Dress in layers so you can remove them as you warm and put them back on if you get cold

Ask
1. Ask students to identify the different types of equipment and facilities that are usually found in a gym or weights,
playing court or field, or dance areas or studious. How are these usually set up in the gym or weights, playing court
or field, or dance areas or studious?
2. Divide the class into 3 groups.
3. Choose a leader and reporter for every group.
4. Ask them to draw as many as they can and share their work with the class.
5. Emphasize that different types of equipment come in different sizes, shapes, and are also made in different
materials. Strategic placement of equipment is observed to maximize space and ensure convenience of working out
and safety of gym users.

When you engage in aerobic, muscle and bone strengthening activities, you are likely oy make use of different equipment
and facilities. These resources help in your enjoyment and participation so you have to care for them. Depending on the
venue or facility there is a specific decorum expected from those who use them.

Playing court or field

Observe proper manners or etiquette inside the gym.


 Those who utilize and set up equipment are expected to properly fix, return, or store the equipment after use.
 Keep the venue clean and as orderly as possible after use.
 Wipe off wet spots caused by drinks and sweat.
 Throw away used supplies and equipment like empty water bottles, athletic tapes, shuttle cock feathers in
badminton, etc.
Dance areas or studios
These are either open or enclosed spaces with full sized mirrors on one or more side.
Expectations when using dance areas or studious
 Keep footwear and other belongings on the sides or designated spots (i.e. lockers , benches or tables)

 If it is an open area, keep music at accepted volume so as not to disturbed others users.
 Know the studio schedule every time so that you will not be rush to move out for the next users.
Gym or Weights area
These are usually indoor facilities with different types of equipment such as machine weights, free weights, balls, exercise
machines (e.g. treadmill, stationery bikes, rower, stair climber) mats etc.
Observe proper behavior during and after working out.
 Allow maneuverability and easy access for all those who work out.
 Avoid monopolizing use of the equipment. Share it with other by taking turns using them.
 Return equipment to its proper place
 Do not slam or drop weights.
 Wipe off drinks and sweat off equipment and floor.
 Lower volume of music or wear your earphones.
 Minimize grunting, refrain from yelling and using profanity.
 Wear appropriate clothes including footwear. Do not take them off to look at your body at the mirror.
Some gyms or weights area have some reminders posted on strategic locations so that users will always be reminded. Read
them and make sure to follow them to have a worry free time working out.
ASK:

E. Additional activities for Directions: Ask the students to visit gyms or weights area in their community. Tell them to look for the signage’s about
application or remediation appropriate etiquette in the gym. Have them observe gym users if they follow this etiquette. Ask the student to pretend
they were the gym manager; what action would they take for gym users to observe proper gym etiquette. Let them share
their answer with the class
*Emphasize to the students to ask permission from the gym owner first when they do the activity. If they take pictures of
individuals, make sure that they ask consent from gym users as well.
