Week 8 Updated Anecdotal Notes on inferencing

Cathy Cathy is continually exceeding my expectations and still getting

better! She does all of her work to the best of her ability and today
incorporated new words that she had previously identified in her
reading journal log for the week.

Kingdom I challenged Kingdom to think of higher-order questions that would

not be ‘obvious’. He said it was hard but came up with much more
thorough questions to help people infer, which was great.

Isabella Isabella answers ALL questions (or at least puts her hand up to
attempt to answer) and comes up with much deeper and more
abstract inferences now than she previous has.

Mira I think Mira is having an off day today as she is not participating as
much as usual and had to be reminded of basic sentence elements
(punctuation, capital letters etc.) when she is usually competent.

Abbey Abbey mistook prediction for inference, describing prediction as

‘your knowledge mixed with clues in the text’ but this is likely
because she missed the full week of prediction and a little bit of
reminding will clear up any misconceptions and consolidate her
learning.

Tyler Today proved that Tyler needs constant positive reinforcement AND
structure/expectations in order to do his best work.

Overall
- They all seem to be understanding and making the link
between prediction and the detective theme, by looking for
clues (aspects included on the cover) to solve a mystery
(what happens in the story).

- They are moving on from just making inferences about texts

and characters, then seeing how you can INFER in real life
(how someone is feeling without them telling us directly,
what will happen next in a photograph, if someone is
bored/angry/sad based on body language
