P.G. Diploma is one of the oldest training programme of IIRS. It is of 10 months
duration. The programme is modular in structure :

Module 1 (4 months) : Covers Basic Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing

Module 2 (3 months) : Covers core subjects in above mentioned eight thematic
disciplines
Module 3 (3 months) : This module is exclusively for the project work. Candidates will
take up pilot project in the concerned thematic discipline. It gives an opportunity to the
students for planning and education of the project work based on knowledge gained in
Module 1 and 2.

  Postgraduate Diploma In Geo-Information Science And Earth Observation
(Specialisation/ Domain: Geoinformatics)

The Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Geo-information Science and Earth

Observation (specialisation/domain: Geoinformatics) is offered within the framework of
Joint Education Programme (JEP) of the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) and
the Faculty of Geo-information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of
Twente (UT), The Netherlands. The course is of 10 months duration. The place of study
is IIRS, Dehradun.
Following successful completion of the course, the participants receive the
Postgraduate Diploma in “Geo-information Science and Earth Observation
(Geoinformatics)” along with the ‘course record’ containing details of marks obtained.
The diploma is awarded jointly by the Faculty ITC/ University of Twente and IIRS.
Course Structure
The courses are modular in structure; each module is of 3 weeks duration. The course
is covered in 14 modules, which are organised in 3 blocks. The overall course structure
is provided in Table 1 and module descriptions are provided in Table 2.
Block 1: consists of 3 core modules covering the basic principles of Remote Sensing,
Geographic Information System (GIS), and Databases.
Block 2: consists of 7 domain (Geoinformatics) specific modules to deepen the
understanding of RS and GIS techniques and their applications.
Block 3: consists of 4 modules in which students carry out a Pilot project, write a report
and make the presentation before a committee consisting of IIRS and ITC experts.
Eligibility Criteria and Admission Process
The candidates applying for the course should have the following qualification:
M.Sc./ M.Tech. Degree in Physics/ Mathematics/ Applied Mathematics/ Statistics/
Geophysics/ Meteorology/ Oceanography/ Geology/ Agriculture/ Urban and Regional
Planning/ Remote Sensing or any Natural/Environmental Sciences, OR Master in
Geography, OR B.E./ B.Tech. in Civil Engineering/ Electronics and Communication/
Computer Science/ Computer Engineering/ IT/ Agricultural Engineering/ Geoinformatics,
OR MCA (with B.Sc. Degree).
The admission in Postgraduate Diploma course is based on merit considering the
academic performance and experience. Preference is given to Government-sponsored
candidates.

INDIAN COUNCIL OF MEDICAL RESEARCH (I C M R)

DIVISION OF HUMAN RESOURCE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT (HRD)

ICMR CENTENARY -Post Doctoral Research Fellow (Scheme)

ICMR, with its 30 state-of-the-art Institutes/Centers, is amongst the foremost

research organizations in the field of Bio Medical Sciences. Over the years, the Council
has helped India user in a scientific milieu, creating and nurturing talent in many
disciplines such as communicable and non communicable diseases, basic medical
sciences, reproductive health including nutrition, human resource developments etc.

ICMR Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Scheme is being instituted to foster high

quality research opportunities to promising fresh PhD/ MD/MS holders in the cutting
edge areas of basic science, communicable and non communicable diseases, and
reproductive health including nutrition at ICMR Institutes /Centers. Special focus will be
on fundamental research in areas of science and other priority areas identified by ICMR
from time to time. ICMR intends to offer fifty (50) such fellowships every year
for working in ICMRInstitutes/Centers with state-of-art R&D facilities. These fellowships
will be allocated by Director General, ICMR, depending upon the needs of the
Institute /Centre.

Eligibility:

Fresh PhDs/MD/MS within three years of completing their PhD/MD/MS and also those
who have submitted PhD/MD/MS thesis.

ICMR Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is open to Indian nationals only.

Tenure:

Two years and extendable for maximum one more year based on outstanding
performance and recommendations by the Director / Officer-in-Charge of the concerned
ICMR Institutes/ Centers.

Maximum Age Limit:

32 years, relaxable upto 5 years in case of SC/ST/OBC/PH and women candidates, as

on last date of application ( 30 June and 31 December ) . For deserving candidates age
can be relaxed maximum upto maximum of 3 years based on earlier work done,
publications, awards etc. along with the request by sponsoring Director /Director-in-
charge. Director General may consider and relax on the recommendation of thee
screening committee.

Remuneration:

ICMR Post Doctoral Fellows will be paid a consolidated fellowship of Rs.35,000/- per
month plus House Rent Allowance (HRA), Non Practicing allowance (NPA) as
admissible and a contingency grant of Rs.3.0 lakhs per annum. 25% of the contingency
grant can be used for travel including per diem expenses.

Mode of Selection:

Selection of the “ICMR Centenary Postdoctoral Research Fellows” will be made through
interview of short listed candidates by specially constituted Committees by Director
General based on their publications, citation and its impact factor. The place of

Given the emphasis on research in the U.S. higher education system, post-
doctoral scholars (or post-docs, as they are commonly known on U.S. campuses) play
an important role on U.S. campuses. In return for contributing to ongoing research in the
department, post-docs have the opportunity to pursue their own research and work on
articles and manuscripts, Postdocs are usually given either full or restricted access to
university resources – from computing hardware to lab equipment to archives on
campus.

Indian scholars have ample opportunities to study PhD in the U.S. or conduct
research by applying for the large number of post-doctoral opportunities that await them
in the U.S. Post-docs pay reasonably well, offer unparalleled networking opportunities,
and are a huge value-addition to a scholarly resume or CV
 There are two primary ways to complete short-term study or research in the U.S. at the
postgraduate and postdoctoral levels:

 Apply directly to U.S. universities as a non-degree seeking or visiting student

 Coordinate an arrangement with a U.S. university as a visiting scholar or
fellow on your own or through an established exchange program

Non-Degree or Visiting Student

It is possible to apply directly to U.S. universities as a non-degree seeking or visiting
student status. Under these arrangements, students may be able to complete
postgraduate coursework (including research-based classes for credit) and/or have
access to university and department facilities for research. As a non-degree seeking or
visiting student, a post-doc will likely pay similar tuition fees to that of a degree-seeking
students.

Funding from a U.S. university for short-term study is very limited. External funding
bodies, such as the Fulbright India fellowships and loans may be your best options for
funding. To begin researching universities and choosing a degree program, you may
wish to read the short listing a university section of this website. Alternatively, you may
wish to network through colleagues or contact U.S.-based researchers who have
published or recently presented at a conference in your field.

Once you have selected universities, you should contact their admissions office to
determine whether it is possible to apply to study or research on a short-term basis and
to deternine the admissions criteria and application procedures. Keep in mind that some
universities may not have an option for visiting students. You may be asked to submit a
transcript, essay, recommendation letter(s) and/or plan of study to apply for these
programs.

Visiting Scholar or Fellow

If you already possess a PhD, it is also possible to coordinate an arrangement to
lecture, consult or conduct further research at a U.S. university as a visiting scholar or
post-doctoral fellow. Visiting scholars and fellows are given access to university and
department facilities for research, similar to regular faculty members. These positions
can be coordinated with a university department directly or may be part of an

Most visiting scholars/fellows are expected to be self-financed, either through
an external funding body or a salary from the scholar's home institution paid while the
scholar is on sabbatical. USIEF offers a number of Fulbright awards for postgraduate
study and research, as well as distinguished scholars and fellows programs. Many top-
tier universities in the U.S. have their own post-doctoral programs with their own
individualized applications and interview processes as well.

Post Doctoral Fellowship Programme

Candidates preferably below 35 years having a Ph.D. Degree and willing to carry
out advanced research in the fields of Basic Sciences; Earth, Ocean & Climate
Sciences; Electrical Sciences; Infrastructure; Mechanical Sciences; Humanities, Social
Sciences & Management may apply for this position.

Tenure This is purely a temporary time-bound position, and must not be

considered in any way as a permanent cadre of the Institute. The
fellowship is offered initially for a period of one (1) year, and may be
extended for another year based on review of the contributions made
by the Fellow.
Responsibility The Fellow will be required to participate in the teaching and research
activities of the Institute including mentoring young undergraduates
and post-graduate students. The Fellow shall also carry out any other
assignments related to academics as given by the Institute.

Eligibility Consistently good academic record followed by a Ph.D. degree in the

relevant fields in Engineering/Science/Humanities. Only those
candidates, who have received the Ph. D. degree within the past two
years, will be considered.

Candidates called for interview will be reimbursed TA (up to AC 3-Tier

Fellowship
For Engineering: Rs. 30,000-35,000 depending on years of
post-Ph.D. experience.

For Science & Humanities: Rs. 25,000-30,000 depending on

years of post-Ph.D. experience.
 Other
Suitable accommodation along with a contingency grant of
Rs.40, 000 per annum will be admissible.

House Rent Allowance as admissible, if accommodation is not

provided.

Medical and Leave benefit: As admissible by the Institute.
