AIM: - to improve learners' language skills and expand their vocabulary

OBJECTIVES:

- to practice previously learned lexical items

- to develop learners' language and grammar skills

- to expand their vocabulary

- to develop learner’s creativity in language use

TEACHING STRATEGIES: instructing, explaining, questioning, demonstrating

LEARNING ACTIVITIES: reading, reading comprehension, answering

questions, copying, practicing speaking skills, writing,

monitoring, controlling classroom atmosphere

TEACHING MATERIALS AND AIDS: textbook, workbook, notebook, blackboard,

chalk, laptop, projector, CD player, CD

INTRODUCTION:

1.1 Housekeeping Estimated time: 5 minutes

1.2. Revision of the previous lesson


Estimated time: 5 minutes

Objective: to check how much the students remember from the previous lesson

Procedures:
- check if the students have copied new words into their dictionaries
- read the answers to the questions they covered in the previous lesson

Aids and materials: textbook, notebook, dictionary

DEVELOPMENT

2.1. Listening Estimated time: 10 minutes

Objective: to practice the students’ listening skills


Procedures:
- tell the students that they are going to listen to a telephone conversation between
Brian and the Eco Warriors club

- check their comprehension of the conversation
- go through the membership form on page 35 with them
- read the telephone conversation on page 36 to enforce the phrases used in a typical
phone call

Aids and materials: CD, CD player, textbook

2.2. Motivation Estimated time: 10 minutes

Objectives: to prepare and motivate the students for the upcoming lesson
Procedures:
- show the students some images related to Great Britain
- play the UK national anthem
- show them a map of the world and ask them to point to Great Britain
- finally, put up a map of Great Britain and distinguish between the countries

Aids and materials: laptop, projector, teacher-created material

Objectives: to practice the students’ reading and writing skills


Procedures:
- write the key words of the lesson on the blackboard
- read the text together
- check the students’ reading comprehension
- summarize the lesson on the blackboard with the students

Great Britain consists of England, Scotland and Wales. The United Kingdom is the name for
Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The flag of the UK is called the Union Jack and the
national anthem is God Save the Queen.
Elizabeth II is the queen of Great Britain. She has no political power. The Government and
the Prime Minister decide about the future of the country. The Queen lives in Buckingham
Palace. London is the capital city of the United Kingdom. It is one of the most famous cities
in the world.
