SIBDL for Optinex equipment: basic information

What is SIBDL?
It ‘s a useful test tool to perform mainly a SW package download on OMSN equipment. This program
runs on a PC with WINDOWS NT operating system.

Where is SIBDL?
It is available on each CD-rom released with SW package of OMSN equipment.

When to use SIBDL?

Only in equipment with flash card never programmed (typically when the OMSN equipment are delivered
to customer and need the commissioning procedure).

How much time SIBDL employs to download a SW package?

It depends in which way is performed, more or less:
Using PPP option, bit more of one hour; using TELNET half hour.

Where is the official paper that explains how to perform a download?

It is at the end of each operator’s handbook of OMNS (1640FOX, 1650SMC, 1660SM 1670SM). It is also
possible to retrieve useful information from Help on line of SIBDL program.

How to install SIBDL

On PC you must have administrator privileges; from CD-rom, run “SIBDL_SETUP.EXE”, and after IT IS
NECESSARY to configure it (see the “SIBDL Read Me” file in: Programs → Alcatel → SIBDL 2.1.0).
By default, COM1 is the serial interface used.

How to run SIBDL

From START choose: Programs → Alcatel → SIBDL 2.1.0 → SIBDL.
On PC will appear the following window:

How to make an automatic mode to download a software release

Preliminary:
There are two ways to download a SW package: PPP or TELNET protocol.
The first (PPP) use the F interface of NE and foreseen only a point-to-point connection between CT and
NE (COM1 of CT and F interface connector of EQUICO board for 1660SM or SHYNT main board for
1650SMC). Like example, see the following test bench:

The Second (TELNET) uses the F interface of NE plus a LAN connection between CT and NE.
LAN connection must be a point-to-point between LAN card of CT and LAN connector of CONGI main
board (if is used the 10BaseT connector, use a HUB or to avoid the HUB, use an inverting cable).

Procedure:
Use one of the previous test benches and follow step by step the procedure described below.

1st step.
Start SIBDL program
2nd step.
When it appears the command menu, select “automatic mode” command (press 8 key and return or enter
key).
3rd step.
Insert the descriptor file of the SW package that you want to download; put the complete path if the file
isn’t in the same directory of SIBDL.
4th step.
Choose PPP or TELNET (depends of the test bench used)

PPP selection: TELNET selection:

Write "PPP" and presses return or enter key Write “TELNET” and presses return or enter
key.

known your PC address, double click on "My
computer" icon on your PC desktop, double click
on "Control Panel" icon, and double click on
"Network" icon; after, open Protocols folder;
select TCP/IP protocol and press Properties

5th step.
Choose if you want to format the target flash card: format target flash card [n(|y)]. If you select 'n', you
will start application without format the target flash memory, otherwise if you select 'y', the program will
ask you a second confirmation: WARNING: all information will be cleared. Are you sure? [n (|y)]:". Only
if you select again 'y', the program will format the target flash card; if you now select 'n', the program will
ask you again your first choice.

6th step.
SIBDL perform the download of the SW package (first the SC and than the EC). At the end the program
ask to press return to continue and it will be showed the first screen.

7th step.
Exit from SIBDL typing 4 and presses return or enter key.

8th step.
Extract and re-insert the EQUICO board (or SHYNT if the equipment is 1640 or 1650). ATTENTION, to
complete the download, it is necessary to perform a download using Craft Terminal (it will be sent to NE
only the descriptor file, it needs few minutes).

Problem 1: wrong setup of SIBDL
If during the SIBDL download, after step 5 the program stops, (see next window).

It means that something during the SIBDL installation was not correct. Check the serial cable in RAS
configuration, so read the “SIBDL Read Me” file in: Programs → Alcatel → SIBDL 2.1.0; take attention
at item 4, you must use the “mdmalca.inf” file when install the serial cable modem (this file is under
Alcatel/SIBDL 210 directory).

Problem 2: flash not erased

If during the SIBDL download, after step 5 the program stops, (see next window).

It means that the PPP section (link on F interface) is not started; the most common problem is the flash
card is not empty (there is a program) so the serial port of EQUICO is busy, and is not yet possible to erase
the flash card!

Connect the debug connector of the EQUICO with a Hyper-Terminal program

 On “pSH+>” prompt, type reset -r and press return

See the example below:

  Close the Hyper-Terminal.
After this procedure, it is possible to perform again the download with SIBDL, but at step 5 choose erase
flash card!

Problem 3: wrong IEEE file format

If during the SIBDL download, after step 5 the program stops, (see next window).

It means that the SW package in IEEE format have problems.

Example: executable files are shortest than ~67 Kbyte (except the last).
Verify that the file is not corrupted!
