XPIC configuration
XPIC configuration

The function XPIC (Cross Polarized Interference Canceler) is a MODEM

functionality which allows using the dual polarization transmission (vertical and
horizontal). In this way, exploiting two polarizations, the transmission capacity
of the radio link can be double using a single frequency.

73
XPIC configuration

74
XPIC configuration

In relation to XPIC function, through WEB LCT it is possible:

To disable temporarily the function XPIC for every single branch and then to re-enable it,
use this WEB Lct menu.

Disabling the function XPIC is a manual operation (MAN. OP). Remember that, if the
timeout of the manual operations is inactive, the function XPIC remains disabled until
when it is restored by the user.

75
XPIC configuration
Fault Management Procedure
Purpose of the FMP (Fault Management Procedure) procedure is to identify a malfunction caused
by equipment faults and to preserve the horizontal or vertical branch where there are not
problems.
The procedure differentiates the alarms due to external causes (e.g., fading) from those due to
equipment faults.
The time within which the procedure involved is at least 2 minutes.
The activation of the FMP procedure involves the switch-off of a transmitter and the disabling of
the XPIC inputs signal (XPIC canceller).
To enable and disable XPIC fault management procedure (FMP) use the following menu. When FMP
intervene, is necessary a manual reset to restore the normal functionality.

E1 Path Protection
E1 Path protection

E1 Path protection is a feature that allows to protect one or more radio TDM by two
different Radio path.
It’s available only in 2x(1+0) configuration, Single or dual pipe, XPIC or not.

Radio 2A Radio 2A

• It’s allowed only protection between Permanent to Permanent or Extra to Extra TDM,
not mixed (permanent to extra or viceversa).
•The first path that is connected by WEBLCT interface is the “active link”.
•It’s possible to forced or use the preferential branch to manage the active or standby
TDM path.
•It’s possible to manage the structure of the E1s using the Framed (G.704) or Unframed
(G.703) alarms to switch the TDM path.

Ethernet Enhanced

Equipment ALCplus2e can operate with Ethernet Enhanced functionality active or inactive
(see WEBLCT menu).
In the first case, the graphical interface will contain the commands for the management
of functionality Ethernet Enhanced; while in the second case the commands for the
management of Ethernet functionality compatible with ALCplus2 (Radio side) will be
available.
This presentation describes the commands and the functionalities of the application WEB
LCT ALCplus2e when the management of Ethernet Enhanced is active.

85
Ethernet Enhanced

Following a short list of Ethernet enhanced functionality that will be treat in

this presentation:

• Lan to Radio 8 queues-priority management

•Input Filter Policing LAN1-LAN4

•MPLS priority

•Selective QinQ and C-TAG Rewriting

•Lan to Radio queue configuration (WFQ – Strict Priority)

•Packets Fragmentation

•Packets compressor

86
8 Queues management

The Priority Lan To Radio contextual area opens with the Native 802.1p/MPLS tab active.
Table 802.1p Priority points out the correspondence between native 802.1p priority, possible present in
packets in input from LAN ports, and the output queues of Radio ports.
The rows of the table correspond to the output queue of the Radio ports:
• Queue 7. Output queue with 7 priority (high priority).
• Queue 6. Output queue with 6 priority.
• …….
• Queue 1. Output queue with 1 priority.
• Queue 0. Output queue with 0 priority (low priority).
The columns of the table (0 ÷ 7) correspond to the Tag 802.1p value.
The active option indicates which output queue (Queue…) the packet in input is associated to, whose value of
priority Tag (802.1p) corresponds to the value 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7.

The MPLS to 802.1p Rewrite table, points out the correspondence between MPLS priority and 802.1p priority
of packets in input from LAN ports and in output from Radio ports.
The active option points out which 802.1p priority every single native MPLS priority is re-mapped to.
Correspondence can be 1 to 1, that is same priority in two fields, or arbitrary according to the function chosen
by the user. For instance,
87
the priority MPLS 7 can be re-mapped as priority 0 in field 802.1p.

Strict Priority: the queue with highest priority is completely weight value
emptied (sending of all the packets) before sending a frame of the set by the user.
queue with lower priority.

WFQ (Weighted Fair Queue): starting from the queues with highest
priority up to the queues with lowest priority, they are empties with
a criteria that is based on the weight defined by the user (minimum
1, maximum 100). This criteria is based on byte, not frames as WRR.

Multi-Level Header Compression
When compression is active, the following parameters are present in the WEB menu:
• Bytes Header. Number of bytes in the header which are compressed depending on the settings made for the
compressor. Maximum number of byte: 124. Parameter is readonly.
• Bytes Context+Dynamic. Maximum number of bytes used by the co/decompression process and calculated by a
proprietary algorithm. These bytes can be used depending on the settings made for the compressor. Maximum number
of byte: 118. Parameter is readonly.

89
Multi-Level Header Compression

Packet Header Compression

• Main concepts:
Packets belonging to the same flow share a large part of the header that does
not vary over time (up to 90% of header: IP and MAC addresses, Ethernet
TAGs, MPLS labels, etc.). As a basic idea, Header Compression operates at the
terminations of a radio link, storing all the information that repeats identically
packet after packet and transmitting only the variable fields (sequence
number, timestamp, etc.): thus, in the presence of long communication flows
characterized by a large number of packets (such as, for example, real-time
communications), we can achieve good throughput gains.
You should simultaneously support several streams in order to maximize the
gain. All the static information of the packets belonging to the same flow are
stored by the compressor/decompressor block and we call them context.

Radio Packet Fragmentation

Radio Packet Fragmentation is an algorithm that, if enabled, fragments ethernet packets incoming
from LAN ports and sent to the Radio port , into bursts whose size is limited to the specific value.

• Disabled. Fragmentation disabled: all Ethernet packets keep their size unchanged.

• Enabled 256. Fragmentation enabled: all Ethernet packets with size greater than 256 bytes are
fragmented into bursts whose size is limited to the specific value.

• Enabled 512. Fragmentation enabled: all Ethernet packets with size greater than 512 bytes
bytes are fragmented into bursts whose size is limited to the specific value.

The benefit of this algorithm is to minimize the Jitter variation of the ethernet packets.

WARNING:

When the equipment add an internal S-TAG (with 802.1Q settings in DISABLE or
FALLBACK) take account to the maximum packet size set in the equipment.

In this condition is necessary to consider that in the Radio side the packets are larger
of 4 bytes (the internal S-TAG).

With 802.1Q setting in SECURE (that means that packet VID must be contained in
Virtual LAN table list, otherwise the packet is discarded), no internal TAGs are added.

Advanced LAN statistics
Advanced LAN statistics
Advanced Statistics Monitoring manages the traffic on the Ethernet Ports
displaying the most important counters per port (Frame in-out, Byte in-
out). The filter of this traffic monitor is based on specific criteria
defined by the user.
In detail, the command allows to filter:
Internal Priority
C-Vid

104
Advanced LAN statistics
The depth of the events stored by each single counter is equal to 2E32.
The counters are in compliance with the specification RFC 2819.
The Total Byte Received counter, differently from what specified in RFC 2819, does not include
the bytes belonging to packets of sizes greater than the Max Packet Size.
• Dropped Frame. Total number of frames in which packets were dropped by the probe due to
lack of resources. This value is not necessarily the absolute number of discarded packets, as it
represents only the number of times that this condition occurred after the exhaustion of the
memory resources; the packets can be discarded also for other causes.
• Received Frames. Total number of received frames.
• Received bytes. Total number of octets of data received on the network. This value includes 4
FCS octects.
• Frames Sent. Number of transmitted frames. This counter is increased once for every
transmitted good packet.
• Bytes Sent. Number of transmitted bytes. This counter is increased once for every data octet of
a transmitted good packet
• 64 (Tx + Rx) byte. Total number of transmitted and received packets that were 64 octets in
length.
• 65 to 127 (Tx + Rx) byte. Total number of transmitted and received packets that were
between 65 and 127 octets in length inclusive
• 128 to 255 (Tx + Rx) byte. Total number of transmitted and received packets that were
between 128 and 255 octets in length inclusive.
• 256 to 511 (Tx + Rx) byte. Total number of transmitted and received packets that were
between 256 and 511 octets in length inclusive
• 512 to 1023 (Tx + Rx) byte. Total number of transmitted and received packets that were
between 512 and 1023 octets in length inclusive.
• 1024 to Max Pkt size (Tx + Rx) byte. Total number of transmitted and received packets with a
length greater than 1024 octects.

STM-1 Bulk
General descriptions
The transport "STM-1 Bulk" is a new feature that allows you to carry transparently an STM1
through the Radio.
Activating this function the Permanent TDM Traffic is not longer available.
STM-1 bulk is available in these conditions:
Bandwidth (MHz) Minimum modulation for STM-1 bulk ACM support
28 256 QAM NO
40 64 QAM YES (256÷64QAM)
56 16 QAM YES (256÷16QAM)

The ACM works up to the minimum modulation that allows to transport an STM-1.
A STM1 in bulk mode can be transported only toward one radio direction, Radio A or
Radio B; if it's necessary to enable two STM1 bulk is mandatory to associate one per
radio direction, in 2x(1+0) radio configuration.
The transport of the STM-1 Bulk requires enabling the synchronization on the
equipment and it's necessary that both STM-1 are synchronous.
Please find below the complete list of requirements to enable STM-1 Bulk transport:
• Synchronization must be enabled;
• Synchronization Setup Protocol (SSP) must be disabled;
• with radio configuration "1+0" or "1+1" the “STM-1 Mode” must be “1+0”;
• with radio configuration 2x(1+0) only “1+0” and “2x(1+0) MST” STM-1 Mode are
allowed, “1+1 MSP” and “1+1 MSP No ALS” cannot be used.
