The Relevance of Useless

According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, the word useless means having or being of
no use. Something becomes useless when it is not serving its true purpose of why it was created
in the first place. It was supposed to be an essential entity that we will benefit from. However,
we are taking it for granted. In my opinion, there is no such thing that we can call useless for
everything that we see, hear, feel, taste and touch has a purpose in our life. They are all created
for some reason. These are some of the factors that lead to the present view of Philosophy as a
useless discipline. (1) Devoting yourself to study Philosophy will not help you go far in your
career and will not put food on your table. Its true purpose is being misunderstood that’s why
students are not considering Philosophy as their field of expertise. (2) Science and Technology is
taking over because we want objective reality that supports the meaning behind something. We
want to explanations to feed our desire for the truth. Today, we really need Philosophy in our
lives for we are bombarded with things that confuses our understanding about the meaning of life
and our purpose. Philosophy will help us to truly comprehend what we believe in and how
should we live our lives. It will also help us to seek for the truth that we are looking for in life.
Millennia’s will be able to think critically and help us be a bit understanding of each other and
our duty to our society.

The students thought that writing down the instructions given by their teacher in learning
how to swim is far more important than doing the actual thing. Students believed that writing it
down will help them learn the skills than doing it step by step on their own. They actually
thought that they already know how to swim but in reality they don’t because they have just
listened to the instructions given. They will learn it best if the teacher showed them how things
are to be done in a step by step manner. The more senses that the students will use the better they
will learn the skill with the help of practice. The teacher was so eager on making the learners
jump in the swimming pool instead of just taking down notes on how to swim because s\he
knows that application will help them learn the skill. The teacher has given the instructions for it
to be executed not just to be written down on their notes. Some students would not “jump” and
“swim” for they thought that they will learn the skill by writing down the set of instructions on
their notebooks. It is important for them to just know how it is done than trying it for themselves.
I think some students would not do and learn things for themselves for they are afraid of failure
in their first time of trying and they always want someone more knowledgeable by their side to
master the skill.
