Introduction

Indonesia is known as an agricultural country. As an agricultural country, Indonesia is


a country that has excellence in the field of agriculture. This can be demonstrated by the extent
of the land used for agricultural activities. Indonesia statisticsin 2004 showed that about 74.52%
of Indonesia's land area is used for agriculture. In the new order era, Indonesia was once
the country's self-sufficiency in rice. However, the condition that occurs
when this country became importers of rice. This happens because rice production in the country is
insufficient.

Indonesia actually has potential to repeat the triumph as world rice producing
countries ever achieved at the time of the new order. The triumph can be realized by use of the
potential and creativity that is owned by the youth. The youth can develop the idea in the field of
agriculture.

Indonesia is the third largest rice-producing state in the world. It is originated from the
increased production of rice which became the main objective of the building of the new order. The new
order focuses on the development of the agriculture sector so that Indonesia achieved self-sufficiency in
rice in 1984. Rice production in that year reached 25.8 million tons. Whereas, the 1969 data showed
Indonesia only produced rice 12.2 million tons (Karim, Sarbinor dkk, 2016). The data showed that
production of rice increased by 12.8 million tons within the next fifteen years. However, according to
data of the Central Bureau of statistics (BPS), in 2000 Indonesia import rice amounted to 4,751,398
tonnes. However, according to data of the Central Bureau of statistics (BPS), Indonesia's rice imports

Indonesia’s rice production decrease caused Indonesia can not handle the needs in the
country. The main factors that led to a decline in rice production that is still relying on Java as the main
producer of rice in Indonesia. The growing population and dwindling land on the agricultural sector is
also a factor in the causes of the decrease in rice production.

Conclution

To boost rice production in the country, the youth should be involved in helping
farmers to increase the production of rice. The younger generation in the field of agriculture may
establish an organization. The organization consists of young men who have expertise in the field of
agriculture. The organization can make a work program that is provide knowledge and acquaint about
how planting rice land that did not require too broad but more profitable hydroponics cultivation way.
