During our first limiting reactants lesson, the students will submit a brief paragraph explaining what they
think a limiting reactant is as it relates to a chemical reaction. In class we will engage in a discussion on exactly
limiting reactants are and how to find them when we are given balanced chemical reactions. We will then
move our discussion in to identifying the amount of product we can produce given the limitations of the
limiting reactant.
Reflective Practice:
In order to push the application of this lesson forward, the students will work in groups to come up with a real
world scenario that applies this concept. They will be tasked with finding someone they can interview in an
industry that relates to their scenario. They will be encouraged to document this interview using current
technology resources available to them. Their interview should help them find out what factors they might
want to consider about their scenario, give them a better idea of what the expert does, etc. The students will
have to explain how the principle of limiting reactants applies to their scenario and what implications it has
on the outcome of their scenario.
