2) Check the sides of the hardlock. Each side will have a sticker -
one with the hardlock label number and the other the serial number.
The serial number for the program will be printed on a sticker in the
following format: ****-*****-****-*****. You must use the serial number
assigned to your specific lock. Otherwise, you will be unable to
update your lock in the future.
5) When the installation wizard asks you to select the security system
type, select Local Security. Proceed with the following steps as
instructed by the wizard to complete the installation.

7) If you are able to see the New dialog box, then the installation was
successful.

2) Look at the inside of the CD jewel case and verify that the lock
number there matches the number printed on the sticker placed on
the lock itself. You must use the serial number given in the jewel
case for your specific lock. Otherwise, you will be unable to update
your lock.

7) If you are able to see the New dialog box, then the lock update was
successful and you can stop here - you are now ready to start using
STAAD.Pro 2004. If the program gives you a message explaining
that the lock is not programmed for this version, then continue to the
next step.

5) Follow the steps on this page. You will be asked to enter the
information which you obtained in step 2 above. The page will then
display a link to a license file with the extension .LDF and a password.
Insert a floppy disk into the floppy drive.
*Note: If the web page is unable to generate your license file, it will
report an error. If this occurs, please contact your local REI office for
assistance.

7) Write down the password given on this page. Then take both the
floppy disk and the password back to the computer on which
STAAD.Pro 2004 was installed. Insert the floppy and copy the file
onto your Windows desktop.
9) When prompted, enter the path for the license file (.LDF) which
you just saved on your desktop or click on the Browse button to
locate the file. Also enter the password which was written down in
step 6 above.
10) Once you have entered the information in these two boxes, click
on Update Lock. The program should give you a message that the
lock was updated successfully. If you can now open
STAAD.Pro 2004 and see the New dialog box, then you
can stop here - you are now ready to start using
STAAD.Pro 2004. Otherwise, continue to the next step.
11) If your lock is still not programmed properly for STAAD.Pro 2004,
please contact your local REI office for assistance.

6) The wizard will them prompt you to select the type of security
device. Select the appropriate option which corresponds with the
type of lock you were sent with the software.
7) The installation will create shortcut icons for the License Manager
in the Windows Start menu under Programs. The next step will
allow you to name the folder in which these shortcuts will be created.

9) The installation will now ask if you want to install the license
string. The license string is a file which was provided to you on a
floppy disk and has the extension .LIC. Click on Yes then provide the
location of your license string in the next window.
*Note: If you do not have the license string on hand and want to add
it manually later, click No when prompted to add the license string,
or click Cancel to exit the installation wizard. For instructions on
adding the license string manually, see Section 5.1.1, steps 5 and
6.
10) Once you have provided the path to your license string, click on
Next. A message box will appear verifying that the .LIC file found will
be added to the license server. If it has found the correct file, click on
Yes. If not, click on No and go back to the previous step to add the
license string.

6) Next, enter for the name of the server on which the REI Network
License Manager is running. You are then asked to provide the
location of the .USR file. This file was supplied on a floppy disk with
the network license file. Proceed with the following steps as
instructed by the wizard to complete the installation.

4) Follow the steps on this page. You will be asked to enter the
information which you obtained in step 2 above. The page will then

click on this link and from the menu
that appears, select Save Target As…
Save this file onto your Windows
desktop.
5) Open the folder where the REI Network License Manager files are
located. The default location for this folder is C:\NETLM. Run

6) Then right click again on the server, and go to Add Feature =>
From a File => To Server and Its File. You will then be prompted to
locate the .LIC file which was downloaded in step 4 above.
7) After the license string has been added, you should see the feature
NGSOFT01 appear in a branch below the server. When you highlight
this, the license information will populate the Feature information
on the right.

6) Next, enter for the name of the server on which the REI Network
License Manager is running. You are then asked to provide the
location of the .USR file. This file was supplied on a floppy disk with
the network license file. Proceed with the following steps as
instructed by the wizard to complete the installation.

then go to the Tools
menu and select Get
Hardware Lock ID. The
program will report a Hardware
Lock ID. Then go to the Tools
menu again and select Get
Serial Number. The program
will report an 18-character serial number. Write this information down
or keep the program open.

4) You will then need to wait for a response from the REI license
department.
6) Open the folder where the REI Network License Manager files are
located. The default location for this folder is C:\NETLM. Run
WLMAdmin.exe. On the left hand
side, under Subnet Servers, you
should see a list of your license
servers. It should have your
current license listed under your
server. Right click on the feature
name and remove the feature.
7) Then right click again on the server, and go to Add Feature =>
From a File => To Server and Its File. You will then be prompted to
locate the .LIC file which was downloaded in step 4 above.
8) After the license string has been added, you should see the feature
NGSOFT01 appear in a branch below the server. When you highlight
this, the license information will populate the Feature information
on the right.

6.1 Standalone Locks
The following is a list of several error messages that you may
encounter while using STAAD.Pro. Each error message is followed
by an explanation of how to troubleshoot the problem. If you receive
an error message which is not a part of this list, please contact your
local REI office for assistance.

Expected Hasp Family does not match with the attached lock
From the Windows Start menu, go to Programs => STAAD.Pro 2004
=> REI Application Assistant. Then go to the Activate menu and
select Detect and Activate hardware lock. Make sure that the
STAAD.Pro lock is attached directly to the computer and that no other
locks are attached. The
program will search for an
attached lock and prompt you
with a message confirming that
you want to activate the lock
found.

Troubleshooting
Start STAAD.Pro 2004. The program should now open properly and
you should see the New dialog box.
