Area of Square and Rectangle Mathematics 3

I. Objectives:
Through the discussion and interactive activities the pupils should be able to:
A. Demonstrate understanding on area of square and rectangle and its parts;
B. Apply the formula of finding the area of square and rectangle; and
C. Solve for the area of square and rectangle.

II. Content
A. Subject: Mathematics 3
B. Topic: Area of Square and Rectangle
C. Reference: Mathematics 3 by Ofelia G. Chingcungco,et.al.
D. Materials:
Chipboard, pictures, grid board

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Drill/motivation
Tell me!
Show different pictures and let the pupils identify whether it is a square or rectangle

Ask the pupils to give more concrete examples inside the classroom.

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Present the pictures on the board
Ask the pupils based on the pictures about their idea on what to learn for today.

2. Discussion
Identify the parts of a square/rectangle
-Length and height

Present the formula and give an example


Area of Rectangle=L *H
Area of square= s*s
You can also find the area of square and rectangle through counting the square.
C. Application:
Group the class into three groups. Each group should choose one representative to show and present
their work on the board.

Group 1: 6cm

Group 3: Count the number of square

D. Generalization:
To find the area of a square and rectangle we used the formula A=length *width (rectangle) and
A=side*side (square)
We can also find the area through counting the square.
The unit of area is stated as square unit (cm², m²)

Direction: Find the area of each of the square/rectangle.
