PROPOSAL ABSTRACT

This study focused on the extremely effects of family induced pressure to the academic
performance of the grade 12 STEM students of STI Las Piñas. The researchers conducted this
study to know if there is a significant relationship between the extreme effects of family induced
pressure and the academic performance of the grade 12 STEM students.

The researchers will be giving questionnaires to the selected grade 12 STEM students about this
study. The researchers will used Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient to determine
if there are a relationship between two variables.

Lastly, the researchers wanted to know if the extreme effects of family induced pressure helps
the students to perform better on their academic performance and deeply understand the cause
and effect relationship.
INTRODUCTION

As we all know, Pressure is trying to force someone to do something; whether it is against on his
or her own will. Pressure is commonly known as one of the things people are dealing with. Is
family induced pressure have something to do with the performance of a student? Can pressure
affect their Academic performances?

The Effects of Academic Parental Pressure on kids by Modernmom staff (2016) stated that too
much pressure to do well in school can make kids do unethical things. For example, child who
has been told that they should get all A's on their report card could feel forced to undermine an
exam or task so as to satisfy that commitment. They may likewise swing to drugs as well as
liquor to manage the pressure. Watch out for your kid on the off chance that they are hinting at
any appearing to be particularly worried by school and converse with them in the event that you
have any questions or concerns.

Although there are bad effects of pressure, there are good effects as well. Students manage
pressure differently. An adolescent may join a volunteer task since the majority of his or her
peers are doing it. It depends on how the student handle the pressure they are experiencing.

Lindsay Dowdle (2017) said, pressure can be positive in a way that it can motivate you to do
better on your test, work, and it can also push you to your fullest potential. Pressure is one of the
things people need to go through, and once you know to handle it, it comes with benefits.
Pressure is one of the things we have to deal with at some point of our life.

A blog written by Beth Morrisey (2018) discussed the things people should know on how to deal
with Pressure from Parents. Most parents just want what is the best for their children, but when
their idea doesn’t match yours it can frustrate both parties. Use these guides on how to deal with
pressure from your parents: Remain Calm, Know your argument, enlist the aid of an Expert, and
be willing to compromise. Parent pressure can make your home life a horrific experience, yet
following these convenient hints should help reduce the pressure and let you all meet in the
middle. However, in any case, your parents are pressuring you to the point that you feel
imperiled either physically or mentally, contact a trusted adult such as, a family companion,
teacher, specialist or policeman quickly. Otherwise, hold tight in light of the fact that this too
will pass.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Pressure, a word that is often interpreted as one of the things that is affecting people negatively.
During these days, these so called pressure have produced different variations that is also
producing variety of effects that can either help or hinder an individual depending on how they
are handling it.

Family induced pressure is one of them, according to “The Odyssey Online” it is when an
individual’s family has a certain type of educational attainment that they need to attain or even
when their family is expecting them to have good grades and be one of the top students.

The researchers conducted this study in order for them to know if family induced pressure has
something to do on how a grade 12 STEM student behaves. This research can also give
knowledge to the researchers whether pressure has a great impact or not.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter contains related literature. It is compiled in books, articles and internet searches
both local and foreign in different previous studies.

FOREIGN LITERATURE

Alexis Beauclair (2015) “The Pressure on Today’s Students” stated that, In Palo Alto, Calif.,
there is apparently no space for anything sort of 100 percent achievement; these students
originate from families that are knowledgeable and well off.

By differentiate, Carlos Escanilla, who scored ineffectively on the SAT and was an average
student in secondary school, didn't expect particularly of himself. However he finished school
and doctoral level college. Mr. Escanilla's story is a helpful one of flexibility, assurance and
coarseness.

expecting a student to achieve any type of academic goals most especially when they are
expecting them to be one of the top students, or even if they keep on telling these students to
graduate on time.

Also, as a teenager student also needs to learn on making their own financial decisions and make
use of their money in a proper way. This study states that this could also imply pressure to
students.

Relationships can also be a reason for a student to experience pressure, because when a student
does have a relationship with someone, there are times where they are worrying about their
partner and also there are times where they will experience heartaches that will surely be a
pressure for them to carry.

their youngster’s meaning of achievement. Too much academic pressure on the children can
backfire severely and end up affecting them negatively in several ways.

affect their children’s academic performances.
b.) To the Senior High school students – It will help the students to furthermore understand
the effect of family induced pressure.
c.) To the future Researchers – This study can help gain new knowledge and additional
information about family induced pressure’s aftermath.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims to determine the relationship between the extreme effects of Family induced
pressure to the Academic Performances of Grade 12 STEM students in STI Academic Center
Las Piñas SY 2018-2019.

1. What are the extreme effects of family induced pressure to the Academic performance of
Grade 12 STEM students?
2. Is there a significant relationship between the extreme effects of family induced pressure
and the Academic performances of Grade 12 STEM students of STI Las Piñas?

HYPOTHESIS

This study aims to prove the existence of relationship between the Academic performances of
Grade 12 STEM students of STI Academic Center Las Piñas and the family induced pressure.

There is no significant relationship between the family induced to the Academic performances of
Grade 12 STEM students of STI Las Piñas.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

These are terms to understand and as a guideline to the future readers/researchers.


Family induced Pressure – This is the action where a student was force to do something by
their family members.

Effects – The result of family induced pressure to student’s academic performances.

STEM – A strand that included on the Academic Track in Senior High School, stands for
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Grade 12 – These are the students in which the data was from.

Academic Performances – The Grade 12 STEM students’ has achieved in their educational
goals.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONS

The general intent of the study is to know the effects of family induced pressure to Grade 12
STEM students of STI College Las Piñas. This study will identify if family induced pressure has
an effect to the Academic performances of Grade 12 STEM students of STI College Las Piñas.
This has been answered by the selected Grade 12 STEM students of STI College Las Piñas who
experienced parental pressure themselves.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

To accomplish this research, the researchers need to gather the Grade 12 STEM students’ data on
the Extreme effects of family induced pressure to their Academic performances. We must also
find out the main cause why family induced pressure started affecting the Grade 12 STEM
students’ Academic performances. All of these will help us to evaluate if family induced
pressure and a students’ academic performance has a relation.

The researchers distributed questionnaires to Grade 12 STEM students where they can rank how often they
experience family induced pressure, where they can rank it from never (1), seldom (2), sometimes (3), often (4)
and always (5). The respondents also have to indicate their academic performance from: 1 – poor (74 and below),
2 - fair (75-79), 3 – good (80-84), 4 – very good (85-89) and 5 – excellent (90 and above). The independent
variable is the family induced pressure.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

A theory titled "Family Systems Theory" introduced by Dr. Murray Bowen. This theory focused
of human behavior that views the family as an emotional unit and user systems, it is the nature of
a family that its member are intensely connected emotionally. So, if the parents wants to get a
high grades from his/her child, their child will be pressured because if the child not get a high
grades, child will giving a punishment and it will affect to their academic performance on their
school. And if one the member of family using a alcohol or what, this might bring out negative
feedback from their child and it may affect to their academic performance because of what they
seen or heard from their parents.
METHODOLOGY

The method of the researchers’ study is a quantitative research. This chapter defines the research
method used to conduct the study. The researchers’ explain how the necessary data and
information to address the research objectives and questions was collected, presented and
analyzed.

RESEARCH LOCALE

The study was conducted in STI Academic Center Las Piñas since the respondents are the grade
12 STEM students of the school.

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study is designed as a correlation type of research. The researchers’ aim was to determine if
there are relationship in two variables. The researchers’ objective is to know the relationship
between the extreme effects of family induced pressure and the academic performance of a grade
12 STEM student. The quantitative research method was used since it emphasizes the objective,
measurement, mathematical, numerical analysis and statistical data of the given variables
through questionnaires. The result and findings of the study was given by the Grade 12 STEM
students should conduct by the researchers to know the statistical study of the specific areas
where the proponents must concentrate.

POPUATION SAMPLING

Population sampling is the best process of taking a subset of subjects that is representative of the
entire population. The sample must have sufficient size to warrant statistical analysis – The
researchers target is the Grade 12 STEM students of STI Las Piñas. The reason why the
researchers need to gather data is because based on the title, the researchers need to apprehend or
know if the Grade 12 STEM students’ are affected by the extreme effects of family induced
pressure, so in this case the researchers’ only need to apprehend is the Grade 12 STEM students’
academic performances.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

To determine the answers from the respondents (students), the researchers will be giving a
questionnaire that related to the Extreme Effects of Family induced Pressure. It consist of five (5)
questions that the respondents should be answer. The questions made of researchers has easily
understand because it has a guideline.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT OF DATA

In determining if there is a relationship between the two ordinal variables, a computation of


Pearson Correlation Coefficient will be used, it aims to know whether there is a relationship
between two variables or not.

Following the Pearson’s r formula, and with the help of all the collected data, the researchers
have come up with an answer which is r = -0.201252557 which falls in the category of small
negative correlation when based on table 2. Therefore, the greater the value of family induced
pressure, the smaller the value of academic performance will be.
