Introduction

Each year the Electrical Workers Registration Board (the Board) considers a number
of applications for registration and licensing from persons who have been trained
outside New Zealand.

To enable a consistent and transparent approach to be taken to the registration and


licensing of applicants who have been trained outside New Zealand, and who do not
satisfy the requirements of the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Arrangement, the
Board has set rules relating to applicants identity and the authentication of
documents.

Rules of the Board

The Board has introduced the following rules for persons applying for registration or
provisional licences who have been trained outside New Zealand and who do not
satisfy the requirements of the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Arrangement.

1 Proof of identity

All applicants must supply proof of their identity. Proof of identity can be satisfied by
the Registrar, or the Registrar’s representative, sighting the identification page of the
applicant’s passport or a copy of that page which has been certified by a person who
is authorised to administer Oaths and Declarations under the Oaths and Declarations
Act 1957.

2 Proof of electrical work experience and qualifications

All applicants must supply written evidence to the Registrar of their electrical work
experience either in the form of original documents or copies of those documents
which have been certified by a person who is authorised to administer Oaths and
Declarations under the Oaths and Declarations Act 1957.

All applicants seeking exemptions from registration examination requirements must


provide the original documents on which examination exemption is being relied on or
copies of those documents that have been certified by a person who is authorised to
administer Oaths and Declarations under the Oaths and Declarations Act 1957.

3 Verification checks of electrical work experience and qualifications

The Board maintains the right to require the original of any document to be
provided. The Board will also carry out random checking by selecting and verifying
documentation on 10% of files waiting assessing for authentication purposes.

4 Original documents

All original documents provided in support of any application will be returned to the
applicant when a decision on the application has been made.

4 Non acceptance of documentation

The Board may decline to accept any documentation if the criteria above is not
satisfied.
