I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

A. Identify the Elements of a short story.


B. Perform the given activity.
C. Value the lessons in the story.

Topic: Elements of a short story

III. Materials

IV. Procedure

A. Preparation

1. Ask the students to stand up and pray.

B. Motivation

Ask the students:

1. What is your favorite short story?

2. Why did you like it?

3. Which part of the story that made you interested or attracted?

C. Lesson Proper

The teacher will discuss the five important elements of a short story namely
Characters, Setting, Plot, Conflict and Theme.

D. Activity
1. Let the students read the short story “The Necklace” provided by the teacher. And
let them identify its 5 elements of a short story. In a 1 whole sheet of paper.
E. Generalization
It is very important for every student to learn the Elements of a Short Story
because through small stories, one can learn the various aspects of our lives. Most
stories have moral and important message they want to teach us. We people must
see ourselves through it and apply the moral learnt in our everyday life.

F. Evaluation

Answer the following questions in a ½ sheet of paper.


1. It is a series or sequence of events
2. Central idea or belief in a story.
3. A person or an animal who act in a story.
4. Struggle between two people or things in a story.
5. It is where or when the story happens.

V. Assignment

Search for your favorite short story and identify its 5 elements.
