I think it is very important to make sure that learners are motivated. I think the best ways
to ensure that students are actively engaged and motivated are by ensuring that you have a good
relationship with the students in your class, you create a sense of high expectations, and you
personalizing your curriculum because not every student learns the same.

I’ve read about so many ways to identify that students are or aren’t getting the
curriculum. My ALL-TIME favorite so far that I’ve read about is a school implementing a
reteach/enrich program. At the end of the week students are assessed on the material, and
students that have mastered it are put into the enrich program and become the teachers to the
students placed in the enrich program the following week. Students learn so much from their
peers. I think this is the best idea ever.

Allowing the students to become the teacher during the lesson is a great way to let the
students know they’ve mastered the content. It’s a reward to them and allowing them to teach to
students that haven’t grasped the content lets them know that they have mastered the content
enough to teach other students the content.
