2.1 Model :
The models provided for the students are considered to be appropriate with
students’ ability and they can choose the activity that they are most comfortable
with. Proper guides need to be given to students as well as explained the importance
of oral assessments.
2.2 Konstruk :
Some potential students with good basic of English can perform better
compared to those students that have little basic of English language. Of
course assessors will allow students to get their own topics but with proper
guides. Candidates were well explained about the information given to them.

The status of English is as a foreign language for these candidates where their
mother tongue (Rungus and Bajau language) is their first language and Malay
Language is their second language. The ability to speak fluently using correct
and acceptable pronunciation is highly influenced by the status of English
language in their own social cultures. The candidates never used English as a
mode of communication when speaking outside of the school compound
which affects their performance when speaking during the oral assessment.
Good students will be able to deliver fluently whereas the average and weak
kept on pausing and sometimes having difficulty expressing their ideas most
of the time. Teachers encourage students to access any relevant topics from
the internet but only a few managed to do. Majority of the students are
equipped by the teachers. Weak and average students are lacking in terms of
vocabulary knowledge. Therefore, their sentences sometimes are too simple.
Candidates who are very motivated in learning the English language tend to
pick up on bombastic words that they love to use when speaking.
Intermediate candidates tend to use the same vocabulary as one another
which show their intermediate range of words that they can understand and
use on a daily basis. Weaker candidates will have trouble conveying what they
are trying to say because they do not know the correct words in English and
as a result they speak broken English where they mix up English language and
Malay language.
This construct has the least marks for most of the candidates as we know that
their speaking can be spontaneous and the candidates do not have the ability
to correct themselves due to their level of proficiency in the English language.

Candidates should have a positive impression on oral assessment and try not
to be nervous when speaking the English language. Candidates should also make an
effort to improvise their own English language proficiency by using resources such as
the internet and by reading more to gain their vocabulary.
