ABSTRACT
The whole study that has been conducted focuses on the perceptions of
selected Grade 11 students to the LGBT Community and how could these
perceptions possibly affects the LGBT people and the whole community of Unida
Christian Colleges. The study used case study as a research design because its
target is a certain group in the society which is the LGBT Community. Findings
from the data gathered by the researchers revealed that 95% of the respondents
hold positive perceptions towards the LGBT people because according to them,
Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgender were human too that needs to be
respected. And because of the respondents' experience, they hold a positive point
of view towards the LGBT since they treat them nicely. On the other hand, 5%
of the respondents does not go along well with the LGBT people because of
strong spiritual belief. The respondents' perception said, LGBT community is not
good. Furthermore, the researchers also found out from the respondents' answers
that as they hold a positive point of view towards LGBT, respondents assumed it would
enhance their self-esteem and work productively in the society but others said
LGBT people might and abuse the freedom and chance given to them that is why
respondents said they must still know their limitations and be aware of the people
around them. Therefore, the researchers conclude that students from a Christian
school specifically the Unida Christian Colleges hold a positive perspectives
towards the LGBT Community today for they have grown and have eyes wide
open to the modern society

CHAPTER 1:
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
This study does not only focus on the perceptions of other people to LGBT
people but also the effects of the perceptions to them and to the society.
4
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The significance of the study is to help the researcher and the society to be
more open towards LGBT community, despite of having different perspective in the
gender society. Aside from that, this study will also promote a better relationship
5
between the LGBT community and the society. This research will give impact not
only to the reader but also to the LGBT community and to other people who are
not aware. In addition, the future researchers would benefit from this study because
it is expected to provide in-depth information about the LGBT community that will
contribute to the society.

Sociological – concerning the development, structure, and functioning
of human society.

CHAPTER 2:
2.1 Introduction
This chapter presents the related literature and studies after the thorough search done by
the researchers.
The reviewed literature and studies from different perspectives of people who have
a deep understanding towards the LGBT community showed what they experienced in the
society and provided information how they interact with the society. In relating the
reviewed literature to the study, it gives a contribution to specify the deficiencies in the
society towards homosexuality that is needed to put a great focus on. It helps the
researchers to properly identify the factors that affect the issue. It demonstrates how to aim
a good relationship between LGBT community and religion, LGBT community and the
society.
8
Religion became the number one factor that affects people on how they see LGBT
community, as specified in UK Essays’ "Homosexuality and its effect on society", most
religions, being a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender ranks amongst the highest, on the
list of sinful acts. As exemplified, religion plays a huge role in shaping society’ s views on
LGBT community, either by influencing the citizen as an individual, or society as a whole.
According to three Asian cities composed of populations whose views are largely
influenced by Confucianism, adolescents and young adults mainly hold a negative
perceptions. The most common and important predictors for a respondent's perception of
homosexuality were his or her knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and how
traditional his/her values may be (Feng Y, et. al. 2012).
How people view the LGBT community is also influenced by their knowledge that
they attained from their own observations and experiences. And it is believed that the less
knowledge about LGBT people has the more negative view they hold. Here comes the
education that plays an important role on expanding a person that understands the reality.
Its role by definition is to provide knowledge. But sometimes, the knowledge it provides
does not help to shape individuals specifically in understanding some issues in the society.
Because of this, the LGBT community experience discrimination and were even
characterized as immoral and immature.
In highly conservative countries like the Philippines, being part of the LGBT
community has a negative a mark of disgrace in families living with high religious respects.
9
Statistics showed nearly 65% of Filipinos said LGBT community was immoral,
while only a quarter found it morally acceptable and the remaining 10 percent said it had
nothing to do with morals. Although 80 percent of Filipinos were Catholic, they seemed to
be exceptionally tolerant towards gay people.
Most Filipinos keep old customs and still have not totally accepted changes in the
society that is why understanding or at least being aware of modern concepts of sexual
identities remain compacted at the back of their minds.
Filipino homosexuality has taken different forms in the last decade. Nowadays,
little by little, the LGBT people are recognized as a productive individual in the society.
They give contribution to the country's economy but even though, many people witness
their potential there are still a lot to learn and a long journey towards acceptance.
Other than these, the Philippines has one of worst records of violence against the
trans community. There were at least “28 LGBT-related killings” in the country in the first
half of 2011 alone, according to a 2014 UNDP/USAID report. And now the third sex
community are struggling to fight their rights and like what the researchers aim to achieve,
discrimination and violence towards them lessen as a conservative estimate.
10
Furthermore, the discrimination experienced by a homosexual in school or in work
place affects their personality that gives impact to the society.
Based on the National Study of LGBT Educators' Perceptions of Their Workplace Climate,
the LGBT, educator participants do not feel safe and fully supported in their workplace.
Instead, the climate, the overall atmosphere, in which they work is perceived with fear and
distrust, and as troubling, unsafe and unsupportive. Their findings suggests that there are
schools in which a minority of LGBT educators perceive some dimension of a
professionally responsible school climate. Participants in those schools feel comfortable,
safe, and supported. The responses from these participants hold promise for the future. This
proves that without discrimination a productive community would be achieved.
A person have two angles in viewing a certain person, either positive or negative.
Based on the study of Senior High School Department Iligan City National High School
“ Attitudes Toward the LGBT,” attitude is determined as predisposition or a tendency to
respond positively or negatively to a certain idea, object, person, or situation” . Meaning
this research targets the attitude of other people toward LGBT people based on how they
see them which is either in a positive or in a negative way. Another is, if an individual was
being perceptive like, he/she have observe that most of the people in the society do not like
folks in the homosexuals, then, he/she are more favor to go against the LGBT community.
11
Religion was found to influenced attitudes toward the LGBT community. On the
other hand, the Roman Catholic Church and conservative Protestant sects have remained
steadfast in their denunciation despite the fact that they continue to maintain that the sin,
not the sinner, is rejected. However, rejection of the sinner is often the most visible outcome
of these conservative beliefs (Fone, 2000)). The practice of prohibition —rather than
insertion—has tended to be more evident in this multicultural society, our country could
also be a place of different cultures and belief systems. Thus, underrepresented groups have
often become the targets of negative attitudes, discrimination, and sometimes violent
reprisals.
With all of these and knowing the physical, spiritual and social factors and their
corresponding effects on a homosexual in the country, homosexuals, if not accepted then
must be at least respected and treated fairly in the Philippines.

CHAPTER 3
METHODOLOGY
3.1 Introduction
The research sought to answer what were the perceptions of other people to the
LGBT Community and how those perceptions would affect them. This chapter shows how
the research was conducted and how did the research design were used. This also contains
the research locale, informant selection research ethics, instruments used, data collection
and data analysis.
The research design used is case study because the research mainly focuses on
LGBT people. It was used to capture the perceptions of selected Grade 11 students in Unida
Christian Colleges towards the LGBT. The research was considered to use case study
because it gives great emphasis to the data towards a particular group in the community.
The research design also helps to determine how the perceptions affects the LGBT and
how it also affects the society.
3. 3 Research Locale
The study was conducted inside the premises of Unida Christian Colleges that is
specifically located at Anabu I-F, City of Imus, Cavite. It is a top choice Christian school
that does not only focuses on giving good education but also provides Christian values to
empower youth. The study took place in the year 2019 where few improvements on their
facilities and staffs were made due to the PACUCOA Acreditation.
13
3.4 Key Informant Selection
The respondents for the study were Grade 11 students in Unida Christian Colleges
which came from all the strands namely; GAS HUMSS, TVL: Performing Arts, TVL;
Home Economics, STEM and ABM. A simple random sampling technique were used
where in random students from the strands were selected for an interview.
The researchers used qualitative interview which is one of the most common type
of tool in gathering data. Qualitative interviews are generally used as a primary strategy
for data collection. Open-ended questions are needed to allow the respondents to have a
variations to response. The research aims to know the perception of heterosexuals towards
–the LGBT by the used of an interview with understandable and clear questions. It is also
necessary to label the theme or concerns of the research.
14
3.6 Instrumentation
A voice recorder and a notebook was used to gather data from the respondents. It
requires a great deal of care and effort to ensure that the questions are clear and
understandable. The researchers used a qualitative type of interview. It can help the
research to know the impression, opinions, and views of the respondents to the said topic.
They have deep understanding and analytical thinking to gain an information about what
their respondents thinking to the issue.
There are four main questions in every interview. First, the research wants to know
the background or knowledge of the respondents about the LGBT Community. The
following questions are all about the perceptions of the respondents towards the LGBT
Community and the reasons behind it. Then the remaining questions aims to know the
personal issues of the respondents towards the LGBT and how they are going to deal and
interact with them. Those questions are the researchers used to achieve the objective of the
topic.
The data collected were first categorized according to the respondents' stand on
how they view the LGBT Community to provide a better understanding. The facial
expression and tone of voice of the respondents were also observed to have a more in-depth
data to be used on the interpretation and to have an accurate results.
The data were gathered by the used of a personal interview inside the premises of
UCC with a questionnaire with four main questions and follow up questions, and a simple
random sampling for the Grade 11 students in Unida Christian Colleges and data gathering
was conducted every vacant time of the respondents. Case study was the used research
design because the main target of the study is the LGBT Community
